Our Judges

Kayann Ausherman is a self-taught mixed media artist from Haven, a small town near Wichita. She has always had a creative take on life even though her art career didn’t start until her children were grown. She grew in rural Kansas with parents who were scientists. A degree in anthropology was followed by working for a free-lance graphic designer, and then laying out computer schematics, first as a draftsman and then as a cad operator. A large family of adopted and biological children kept her busy for the next couple of decades until she returned to her childhood love of art in 2013. This lifetime of experiences and influences now finds its way into her current art. Rather than focus on realistic replication of her subject matter, she prefers a more whimsical representation. She feels the creative process is about and exploration of new ways to express the familiar, hopefully evoking an emotional connection. She often uses repurposed and unusual materials in her artwork like wrappers, envelopes, postage stamps, and “found” papers. Kayann has illustrated two children’s books, and her work has been published in over 25 national mixed media magazines including Somerset Studio, Cloth Paper Scissors, and more. Since 2013 she has taught numerous workshops on such varied topics as Citra Solv, art journaling, collage, and many other mixed media related topics both in Kansas and elsewhere. Citra Solv sponsored art contests have named her the winner a number of times, and she is one of the Citra Artists listed on their website. She has exhibited her art in many local venues such as Botanica, Dillon Nature Center, banks, churches, bookstores and coffee shops. Her art can be found online at www.artworkarchive.com/profile/kayann-ausherman , as well as on her website www.fromvictoryroad.com and her etsy shop www.etsy.com/shop/fromvictoryroad When not making art, Kayann enjoys time with her husband and ever growing family. They enjoy camping in the mountains of Colorado, and are constantly fixing up their 100+ year old farmhouse. She also maintains an active blog on her website at www.fromvictoryroad.com.

Wade Hampton is an artist. He loves to make art in many forms. He has been a painter, illustrator, graphic designer, cartoonist, musician, writer, director, filmmaker. And one of these days he may actually spend the time to get good at one of them. “My ultimate dream as an artist is to make something amazing. I haven’t done that yet.

Dustin Parker is a child of the 80s, raised on a steady diet of Saturday morning cartoons, Nintendo games, comic books and 80s horror films. As a child, Parker developed his creative muscles by drawing robots, dinosaurs and superheroes on his homework assignments. As an adult, Parker earns his bread and butter working as a graphic designer and illustrator.

His current project is called MONSTER MANIA, a series of digital illustrations of cryptids, anthropomorphic creatures, classic movie monsters, creepy clowns and other oddball characters. The series is inspired by Ben Cooper Halloween costumes, Garbage Pail Kids trading cards, 80s horror films and comic books.

Parker’s illustrations are created using traditional illustration techniques and are characterized by bold lines, garish colors and gritty textures. Parker’s illustration style is heavily influenced by artists like Todd McFarlane, Matthew Allison, Capullo, Alex Pardee, , Daniel Clowes, Geof Darrow, Tom Scioli, Ed Piskor, . and many others.

Parker lives and works in Wichita, KS.
