Northfield High School Athletics Newsletter August 1, 2018

Welcome to the Northfiled High School Athletics Newsletter! Nighthawk Nation will be published bi-monthly during the school year. Welcome aboard!

An Introduction to NHS Athletics

Athletics at Northfield serve as a front porch to the International Baccalaureate experience for a thriving community of principled, open-minded, and reflective lifelong learners. The 2018-19 school year will serve as the finish line of secondary academic achievement for the inaugural graduating class of 2019. It will also serve as the first year in which all Nighthawk Athletic programs are eligible for varsity competition.

Nestled in one of the fastest growing communities in the country, Northfield sets out to become a powerhouse in academics, athletics, and activities. As the newest comprehensive high school in Denver, Northfield is quickly gaining ground on big school competitors while maintaining integrity, sportsmanship, diversity, and unwavering support for students in their quest for academic, athletic, and social excellence.

As Northfield embarks on the eve of varsity athletics, it will be important to foster a team effort that provides a first-class experience for student-athletes, coaches, fans, and officials alike. The effort will not be exclusive to the athletic experience of athletes and coaches. The collaborative effort must incorporate non-athletic opportunities that serve as a platform and introduction to the fields of medicine, journalism, and other college and career oriented traits and qualities that cultivate necessary post-secondary aptitude and character.

As Nighthawk Nation takes flight, it will be important that we do not allow our vision for athletic success to eclipse the activities associated with CHSAA that include music, speech, sportsmanship, and student leadership. There are gifted students in the community and they all deserve the opportunity to display their abilities and skill sets.

Winning is important, but winning the right way supersedes all formulas for success. Just as Northfield works hard to hire the best instructors, the same holds true for coaches and sponsors of athletics and activities. This will be paramount in developing championship programs. Students are expected to extend their efforts in the classroom to the arenas of competition. Regular attendance, appropriate behavior, volunteer hours, and the willingness to learn will be pillars for advancement and features that set Northfield apart from the competition.

The 2018-19 school year will be a year to remember in the yearbook and the record book. The offering of more than 20 Varsity programs will bring along a heightened level of expectation and will provide an extraordinary trickle-down effect that will raise the tides of academics, athletics, and community. Students, teachers, families, community partners, fasten your seatbelts, and prepare for take-off.
