• Innovation and Opportunity • Opportunities abound in exploration, extraction, processing and refining or related services; • industry investment in exploration and development in 2011 approximately $4.5 billion • Currently about 13 per cent of the more than 45.6 billion barrels (7.3 billion cubic metres) of oil initially in-place is recoverable based on current and expected conditions • With approximately 87 per cent of the oil remaining in the ground, there is excellent potential for the use of enhanced oil recovery methods and new technologies

• Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) Techniques • 40 billion barrels (6.3 billion cubic metres) of oil in-place that is a target for the use of new EOR methods/techniques • New technologies like vapour extraction and carbon dioxide injection have the potential to increase investment and resource recoveries in Saskatchewan • The Petroleum Technology Research Centre (PTRC) at Innovation Place Regina plays a significant role in pioneering and developing EOR techniques OIL & GAS IN OTHER REGIONS

BRITISH COLUMBIA

• Ultimate potential for conventional gas in northeast B.C. is estimated at over 91 trillion cubic feet of gas-in-place. • Onshore unconventional resources are currently estimated to be over seven times higher than conventional ones. • Over next 3 years investments for strategic development of shale and tight gas resources in the Northeast and $94 million for the Oil and gas Rural Road Improvement Program. • Investment of $187 million for upgrades to the Sierra Yoyo Desan Road will ensure industry investment and enable a shift from conventional to shale gas development in the region. • LNG Gas Terminals Projects: • Western Canada LNG – (BG Group and Spectra Energy Natural Gas Transportation System) • Pacific Northwest LNG ( & Progress) • Kitimat LNG (Apache Canada Ltd. & Chevron Canada) • LNG Canada – (Shell Canada Ltd., PetroChina Company Limited, Korea Gas Corp, Mitsubishi Corporation (KOGAS)) • Douglas Channel Energy Project – (BC LNG Export Co-operative LLC: LNG Partners (Texas) and Haisla Nation) RENEWABLE ENERGY
