SPORT AT TAS INTRODUCTION AND VALUES Anglican School has a long tradition of sporting success and of providing pathways for students to realise their potential at all levels of participation. Our Sport and Activities Program is designed to provide opportunities to grow and develop positive, lifelong habits. Qualities of commitment, teamwork and socialisation are encouraged through the enjoyment of being involved. Being competitive, performing at our best and a ‘never give up’ attitude is key to being successful in life and while winning in sport is the goal, high importance is placed on how we play the game. DARLING DOWNS REPRESENTATIVE SPORT Throughout the year Toowoomba Primary School Sport and Darling Downs School Sport run trials in a variety of sports to choose representative teams. Darling Downs representative teams will then compete aginst other state regions at QLD State Competitions.

In most cases, students are required to participate in a Toowoomba Trial to be eligible for a Darling Downs Trial. These teams will then travel away to Regional and State Championships. In some cases, like touch football, where there are a number of interested candidates, the school will conduct in- house trials to choose players to be nominated for these trials. This is important for a number of reasons; 1) the players that the school nominates need to meet the required selection criteria, 2) be of a suitable standard to trial and 3) schools are limited to a certain number of students at these trials.

It is also important to note, that only students who are available to attend both the Regional and State Championships, will be eligible for nomination. All nominations for these trials need to go through the school, and decisions on which students are nominated is at the sole discretion of the school.

COACHES, VOLUNTEERS AND OFFICIALS We appreciate the involvement of so many parent and student volunteers in sport. Any parents interested in volunteering or coaching are welcome to be involved once again, and we will assist with training and development across your chosen sports. Our TAS students interested in refereeing and umpiring are also encouraged to see the Sports Department to further your development in your chosen sports, and we will assist in all means to assist you attain knowledge, qualifications and experience in you desired sports. Please contact the Head of Sport to express interest and there will be further communication about an induction for coaches and volunteers.

RECOGNITION TAS has players, parents and officials involved in almost every sport and a big part of our philosophy is celebrating their participation and achievements throughout the year at assemblies, sports meetings, through social media and publications and at the TAS Sports and Performing Arts Awards Night at the end of each year. We encourage our community to let us know of your participation and successes so that we can share and celebrate those achievements. It also assists by allowing us to direct someone who may be interested in trying a particular sport, to meet one of their peers to find out more about the sport / activity. Any sporting news, please let the Head of Sport and Activities Office know!
