KILIMANJARO and MOUNT MERU TREK OVERVIEW The ascent of Mount Meru (4566m), Kili’s little sister, makes for a superb training and acclimatising trip before the main ascent of Kilimanjaro. It is a four day round-trip and a wonderful climb in its own right. It is far, far less crowded than any of the routes on Kilimanjaro. You can also expect to see wildlife on the lower slopes and in the Arusha National Park which we pass through after the climb. After a night in Moshi, where you will meet any clients joining just for Kilimanjaro, we head off to the start of the Machame route. The Machame route approaches from the wetter south side of the mountain, initially through dense, lush montane cloud forest and on up to the eastern side of the Shira plateau to Shira 2 campsite. Shortly beyond here the route merges with Lemosho route as it passes the Lava Tower (4600m) on the acclimatisation day en route to Barranco. From this point on the trail can get very busy, but there is never any need to rush on our itineraries. Descent is via the Mweka route. Participation Statement Adventure Peaks recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Chapter 1 Summer Penhalligan was only five years old when she stood on the stage of the Polwenna Bay Village Hall and sang Somewhere over the Rainbow, but even before the final verse was over her mother knew she was destined for fame and fortune, far away from Cornwall and in the bright lights of the West End. Nothing was going to get in the way of Susie Penhalligan’s dreams – least of all her daughter. Summer had spent most of her childhood learning lines, being trundled up and down the country to rehearsals and practising ballet and tap until her feet hurt. While her siblings had spent their time playing on the beach or surfing – or, later on, drinking scrumpy in The Ship – Summer had focused on her acting and tried not to care that she was missing out on what looked like a lot of fun. -

The project served a community of 50,000-100,000 people and targeted the homeless, learning disabled, workforce/workplace learners, seniors/older citizens, intergenerational/families, and ESL learners. Tutoring was done one-on-one, in small groups, and in classes, using the Laubach, Literacy Volunteers of America (LVA), Orton-Gillingham, and Steck-Vaughn methods. The project served 211 adult learners, and provided 3,710 hours of direct tutoring service. -

GoethalsMemorialSchool- a summary of the website Clem hosted 20 years ago in 1999 reconnecting many people around the world. “The way we were” Situated high on the foothills of the Himalayas, close to the town of Kurseong, Goethals was one of many elite schools founded during the British Raj in India by Christian missionaries. Goethals was a boarding boy school. Classes began early March and ended in early December. To graduate, one must pass the Senior Cambridge examinations issued from England. The school was run by the Irish Christian Brothers, who were dedicated educators. THE CHRISTIAN BROTHERS AND EDUCATION Going down memory lane many memories flip past my mind, especially of my school days. Those days are to be remembered the most. Not only the pranks, the achievements, and the failures, but all those things that I learnt. Learning was not only from the books but from those people around me there. "A Christian Brother product" is how I am always described after thirteen long years in St. Joseph's College, Bowbazaar. I had my education, my complete education in SJC. I had seen the Brothers as our Principals, our teachers, and our friends. I had been in school talking to them about almost anything on earth. They had a lot to say and I remember listening to them for hours. I learnt a lot; received a lot of mental and moral support from them. There were times when only words could heal the pain and I always found a patient ear listening to me. I found in them friends, people who went to the extent of teaching me how to live a life.
