Rao Road, Gachibowli Appa Rao Podile Central University P.O. Vice-Chancellor Hyderabad – 500 046. From the Vice-Chancellor’s Desk It is a pleasure to present the Annual Report of the University and its growth and development during the year 2015- 2016. This Report reflects the sustained pace of growth and development of the University during the said year. The University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been ranked fourth best in the country by the National Institutional Ranking Framework of MHRD for the year 2016. It was declared as the Best Central University for the year 2015 and given the Visitors Award by the Hon’ble President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee. UoH also retains its position as one of the major Universities in India in the area of higher education, achieving honours and attaining standards that set a benchmark. The student strength in various disciplines this year stood at 5089, out of which over 45.62% are research scholars pursuing Ph.D. and M. Phil. / M. Tech. programmes. Women students constitute 36.75% of the total strength. 30.13% of the students are from reserved (SC/ST/PH) categories and an additional 31.22% are from the OBC category. In addition, more than 754 students were enrolled in 14 P.G. Diploma courses. The Study in India Programme (SIP) of the University provides an opportunity for foreign students to experience and study not only the various aspects of Indian society, history and culture but also sciences and information technology and in the process creates an international environment on the University campus. The Programme emphasizes heritage, continuity and change in India. Under the SIP, a number of interdisciplinary courses are offered to participants from North American and European universities. The University of Hyderabad can rightly boast of a highly qualified and internationally renowned faculty. Our faculty, numbering 371, produced over 1095 research publications including 59 books during the year. They also contributed vii to the award of 220 Ph.D., 225 M.Phil. 124 M. Tech. and 994 postgraduate degrees. The faculty earned research funding for 275 individual research projects with a total outlay of over Rupees 273 crores from various national and international agencies. These projects supported 55 research scholars. Several consultancy and industry sponsored projects were also undertaken. The University is now 40 years young and is regarded as one of the major Universities in India in the area of higher education, achieving honours and attaining standards that set a benchmark for other universities in India.

Later in 1975, it became an autonomous organization, fully financed by Ministry of Culture, (MoC) Government of India. The objective of NSD is to develop suitable patterns of teaching in all branches of drama both at undergraduate and post-graduate levels so as to establish high standards of theatre education in India. After graduation, the NSD offers a theatre training programme of three years' duration.
