The Rotary Club of Folsom responded with some immediate funds and later provided funding to build houses in Ica. Several members of the club traveled to Ica to build the Website Sponsors houses and two of our members were funded by a Rotary Foundation Discovery Grant to explore grant opportunities at the same time. The result of their trip led to a Rotary Foundation grant for a water project and later a dairy cow project. Please visit our Sponsors. Al said they visited 11 Rotary clubs and the District Conference. All their presentations except one were given in Spanish. The group had 5 vocational days and saw several Rotary projects. One of the projects that Al talked about was a water purification project at a cost of only $30 for 3 years for a family and the amazing change that it has on families. Megan Hodge is a Vocational Respiratory Therapist. She talked about some of the ancient medical equipment that she saw. She also talked about a Rotary Club of Rancho Cordova clean water project that they saw. Grace Davis works as a nurse in the Sutter General Orthopedic Unit and looks after 4 to 5 patients. In Peru, nurses are responsible for 30 and sometimes up to 50 patients at a time in the poorer hospitals. However, she learned compassion from the nurses as she got to tour the hospital including all wards. She also described her experience with one family that prepared guinea pig for a meal. Ryan North is a Middle School Computer Teacher. He said that they had an "awesome team leader". He talked about contrasts in the country as they went to a public school with no technology and then a private school in Lima that had a computer lab with all the bells and whistles. He loved the food and the people and said it was a "great experience". From Oakland Raider to Character Coach- Coach Roz and The Playmakers, Building Youth to Lead and Serve Posted by Jean Irwin Hatfield on Aug 13, 2012 http://www.clubrunner.ca/portal/DynamicBulletinEmail.aspx?accountid=2008 8/ 21/ 2012 Folsom Page 3 of 4 Samual Nas, Daishawn Stafford, Charles Colson, and Greg Roeszler (Coach Roz) explaining The Playmakers at the August 9 meeting. Our Rotary Club of Folsom will be issuing a $1,400 check towards a $10,000 project for the addition of a Literacy component to a youth football program for Folsom Cordova youth. We’re partnering with the Rotary Club of Sacramento, $6,600 towards the project, and the Rotary Club of Rancho Cordova Sunrise, $2,000 towards the project. Upon completion of the purchases for the project, each club will receive back half of the money they paid to fund the program due to a $5,000 grant awarded by Rotary District 5180 on August 7th, 2012. The grant is a District Designated Grant and the $5,000 in funding comes from The Rotary Foundation. Playmakers was started by Greg Roeszler, or Coach Roz, a former Sac High Football coach. Coach Roz was a quarterback at San Diego State, and also spent a year as a quarterback for the Oakland Raiders. As a high school coach he could see his influence over his players at times was greater than that of their teachers and that he could add an emphasis on Character to his program that would serve his players well as men. This evolved into The Playmakers. Boys strive to become “uncommon men” as 7-year-old Samuel Nas reported to us at our Thursday, August 9, meeting. He and 2 other Playmakers gave examples of how the Values of Academics , Family , Winning with Honor , and Service were acted out in their association with Playmakers. When Samuel explained how, for discipline, they have to meet Coach at 6am to run, he was asked, “How far do you have to run?” He replied, “REALLY far.” Daishawn Stafford, a Literacy mentor in the 10th grade, explained that this was his Community Service and how he inspired his first grade mentee to read more and more words. Daishawn was part of a 6-week pilot program to incorporate Reading into the Playmaker’s routine. The main way our club can contribute to this program is for members with some knowledge of football to help choose books and materials that will teach boys to read through their desire to know more about the sport they’re involved with. Members will also have mentoring opportunities to volunteer once a week for 45 minutes to read with a player one-on-one. We’ll need about 30 members as Rotary mentors from all three clubs. However, until we purchase the books, furniture, computers, and reading materials covered by the grant, the project will not be up and running full on until then. We’ll keep the club apprised of the need for mentors. The Playmakers Literacy Program runs all year round from: 4:00-4:45 Monday through Friday. (except for August 13-17 as school starts) at Riverview Community Center, 10700 Ambassador Drive, Rancho Cordova. Visits by Rotarians are welcome at any time 3:30 till 6:00pm. For more information on Playmakers, visit their website at The Playmakers . 1998 APBA PRO FOOTBALL SET ROSTER The following players comprise the 1998 season APBA Pro Football Player Card Set. The regular starters at each position are listed first and should be used most frequently. Realistic use of the players below will generate statistical results remarkably similar to those from real life. IMPORTANT: When a Red "K" appears in the R-column as the result on any kind of running play from scrimmage or on any return, roll the dice again, refer to the K-column, and use the number there for the result. When a player has a "K" in his R-column, he can never be used for kicking or punting. If the symbol "F-K" or "F-P" appears on a players card, it means that you use the K or P column when he recovers a fumble. Players in bold are starters. If there is a difference between the player's card and the roster sheet, always use the card information. The number in ()s after the player name is the number of cards that the player has in this set. See below for a more detailed explanation of new symbols on the cards.
