Principal’s Message
Since its inception 118 years ago, Hindu College has grown from a group of merely 13 students to a diverse and bustling community of over 3500 students. Deeply rooted in its tradition and heritage, Hindu College has been able to constantly re- invent its own identity primarily through the influx of hundreds of bright and talented students every year. The motto of the college, 'Music of Truth', inspires the drive of seeking knowledge in all its ways and forms. The college, through its academic departments and a myriad of extra-curricular activities is able to sustain this pursuit of knowledge and is the ideal place for students to achieve excellence. With an extremely dedicated set of teachers and support staff and an excellent infrastructure, the college ensures that the students are provided with the best environment to learn and grow in. We seek to prepare our young women and men such that when they leave Hindu College, they are well-rounded individuals ready to take on challenges in their respective fields. It boasts of an accomplished faculty of about 140 members, and about 3600 students. The College is also proud of its efficient and very supportive administrative/non-teaching staff. It offers a number of courses in the Science, Humanities and the Social Science Streams. Age Requirement As per Ordinance-I of the University, there is no minimum age bar for admission to the under-graduate and postgraduate programmes in the University and its colleges except in the programmes where the respective regulatory bodies, such as Medical Council of India (MCI), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Bar Council of India (BCI), National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), Dental Council of India (DCI), etc. have prescribed the minimum age requirement in their regulations.

6. Admission of Armed Forces (CW) (Supernumerary Seats) 1. 6.2 Admission of Kashmiri Migrants (KM) (Supernumerary Seats) 1. All the Wards (sons/daughters) of Kashmiri Migrants who wish to be considered for admission to various undergraduate Programmes for University have to register online as per schedule notified by the University. 2. Upto 5% seats are reserved programme-wise in all colleges for Wards of Kashmiri Migrants. 3. All the Wards of Kashmiri Migrants will have to upload a certificate of registration as Kashmiri Migrants issued by Divisional Commissioner/ Relief Commissioner. 4. A concession of maximum 10% in the last cut-off marks fixed for unreserved category applicants shall be extended to the Kashmiri Migrants. 5. Admission of Wards of Kashmiri Migrants will be based on cut-offs to be announced by the Colleges.
7. G uidelines for admission on the basis of Spor ts The Colleges shall notify well in advance, the total number of seats under Sports Quota (supernumerary) alongwith requirement of sportspersons in different Games/ Sports with the respective Position / Event / Weight Category on their College Website and Notice Board. The same would also be notified on the website of University of Delhi. All the constituent Colleges will follow the below mentioned guidelines for admission on the basis of Sports in Undergraduate Programmes:
1. The applicants are required to register themselves and fill online application form available on the DU UG Portal.
2. The charges for registration will be Rs.100/- per game/sport in addition to the charges for the main University registration/application.
The admission on the basis of sports will be based on: (a) Super Category: Direct admission without Sports Trial (b) Admission on the basis of Sports Trial. The grievance related to allocation of marks for Merit/Participation Sports Certificate and Sports Trial shall be redressed by the UG Sports Grievance Committee of the DUSC. 5. The list of finally selected applicants containing marks of the Sports Certificates and Sports Trials along with Programmes allotted shall be displayed on the Website and Notice Board of the College for three days, to take cognizance of the grievances, if any. The Grievance Committee of the College must resolve all the grievances within next three working days before admitting the applicants. 6. The list (soft and hard copy) of finally admitted applicant on the basis of Sports shall be sent to DUSC within seven days from the last date of admission of the University by the constituent Colleges. 7. The College shall maintain a proper record of the applicants admitted on the basis of Sports. 8. The applicant as per their age must be eligible to participate in Inter-University Competitions for the next three years and should not be employed on Part-time / Full-time basis anywhere. 9. Any injury/ casualty caused to the applicant during Sports Trials shall be the sole responsibility of the applicant. 10. It is mandatory to submit an Undertaking on Non-Judicial Stamp Paper of Rs. 100/- by the applicant at the time of admission stating that he/she will play for the College and University during their Under- Graduate Programmes of study. 8. Pr o cedure for Calculating ‘Best Four’ I. Procedure for calculation of ‘Best Four’ subjects percentage for Honours Programmes (For admission to Arts/ Humanities Programmes): a. The merit shall be determined on the basis of one language and three best academic/elective subjects from LIST A. b. Out of three, academic/elective subject chosen above, one must be the concerned subject in which the admission is sought, failing which a deduction of 2.5% will be imposed on the calculated ‘Best Four’ percentage. For honours in languages refer to point 6 of Basis of calculation of Best Four given below. Note: i. If an applicant doesn’t include the subjects given in LIST A in ‘Best Four’, then a deduction of 2.5% of maximum marks will be levied for each subject for the purpose of calculating ‘Best Four’. ii. All subjects to be included in the calculation of ‘Best Four’must have at least 70% theory component of exam. In case, the subject to be considered does not have 70% theory component and 30% practical component, then the marks of theory and practical only shall be converted to 70% and 30%, respectively on pro rata basis. These new marks will then be considered for calculation of ‘Best Four’.

(1) If an applicant has scored: Physics 90 (theory 50, practical 40; max. marks theory 60, practical 40), and Chemistry 91 (theory 52, practical 39; max. marks theory 60, practical 40) which is not in ratio of 70: 30, then the marks can be converted on pro rata basis
Pro rata marks in physics = 88.33; ((50/60) x 70 + (40/40) x 30) = 58.33 + 30 = 88.33 Pro rata marks in chemistry = 89.92; ((52/60) x 70 + (39/40) x 30) = 60.66 + 29.25 = 89.91
(2) If an applicant has scored: Physics 88 (theory 45, IA 14, practical 29; max. marks theory 56, IA 14 , practical 30), Chemistry 92 (theory 48, IA 14, practical 30; max. marks theory 56, IA 14, practical 30), English (90) and Biology 95 (theory 51, IA 14, practical 30; max. marks theory 56, IA 14, practical 30). Mathematics 92. The marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology have less than 70% theory component and therefore have to be converted to 70:30 ratio on pro rata basis.

II. Pro cedure for calculation of ‘Best Four’ subjects percentage for B. Com. (Honours)/B.Com .
One Language from Part 1 of List C1 + three best subjects out of Part 2 of List C1. OR One Language from Part 1 of List C1 + any combination of subjects out of Part 2 of List C1, List C2 or any other subject (not listed either in List C1 or List C2). In such a case, the deduction of marks from aggregate percentage of ‘Best Four’ shall be as follows: i. For every subject included from List C2, a deduction of one percent in aggregate percentage of ‘Best Four’; ii. For every other subject (not listed either in List C1 or List C2), a deduction of 2.5% per subject in aggregate percentage of ‘Best Four’.
Note: 1. All subjects to be included in the calculation of ‘Best Four’ must have at least 70% theory component of examination. In case the subject to be considered does not have at least 70% theory component, then the marks obtained in theory and practical shall be converted to 70% and 30% respectively, on pro rata basis. The marks so arrived at will then be considered for calculation of ‘Best Four’. 2. The applicant must have studied and passed Mathematics/Business Mathematics at the qualifying examination for admission to B. Com. (Hons.). 3. The computation of ‘best four’ subjects in the above framework should lead to an effective and unique ‘best four’ which would be higher than any other combination of ‘best four’ subjects.

Procedure for calculation of ‘Best Four’ subjects percentage for B.A. programme : a. One Language (Core/Elective/Functional) b. Any three elective subjects can be chosen. A deduction of upto 5% on ‘Best Four’ percentage may be imposed if there is a change of stream for admission to B.A. programme, which means either from Commerce stream to Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences or from Science stream to Arts/Humanities/Social Sciences. c. One non-listed (LIST A of Annexure II) subject can be included in calculation of ‘Best Four’ without any deduction. d. For admission to B.A. (Vocational) only, related vocational subjects may be treated at par with academic/elective subjects and upto two vocational subjects, which are in relationship with the programme of study may be included for the calculation of ‘Best Four’. e. If an applicant opts for Modern Indian Language (MIL) (Except Hindi) as a subject, an advantage of up to 10% may be given in ‘Best Four’ in those colleges where MIL is offered as a subject. Note: i. The college will have to notify the actual deduction upto 5% for change of stream beforehand by uploading on their website and intimating the same to the University. ii. If more than one non-listed subject is included for calculation of ‘Best Four’, a deduction of 2.5% each in ‘Best Four’ may be levied in addition to deduction due to change of stream, if any. 74
iii. All subjects to be included in the calculation of ‘Best Four’must have at least 70% theory component of exam. Admission to Science Programmes The Basis of Selection for Mathematical Sciences/Science/Interdisciplinary & Applied Sciences programmes is listed in Section 25 and Section 26. All the subjects to be included for Basis of Selection (PCM/PCB/PCMB) must have at least 70% theory component of examination. In case, the subject to be considered does not have 70% theory component and 30% practical component, then the marks of theory and practical only must be converted to 70% and 30% , respectively on pro rata basis. These new marks will then be considered for calculation of PCM/PCB etc.

Sharma, Faculty Advisor of Earthlings-the Wildlife society of Hindu College, participated in the 'Campus Bird Count' – an event of the Great Backyard Bird Count – India, to spot the various species of birds in Hindu college. It is delightful to know that the college boasts of rich bird diversity, with 26 species of birds being identied on that day. The students greatly enjoyed the bird sighting conducted for the very rst time on the campus, and said it was an entirely different experience outside the four walls of the classroom!
