Awardee: Pamela Frisella The journey of my life took an abrupt direction change after my husband was killed in a dune buggy accident on Jan 1st, 1977. One week later, I met John Kelly, as he presided at Danny’s funeral. Just two months later, I delivered my second son. John’s comforting words were priceless. John was Danny’s favorite teacher at Serra and so our friendship began. John’s influence in my life contributed and led me to who I am today.

I became involved with Samaritan House when John introduced me to his vision. It started with serving meals at the homeless shelter in the late 80’s and moved into a Board position, meal deliveries, kitchen help, holiday and finally creating the first Volunteer Coordinator position in 2001. Those years instilled in me the value of meeting and valuing those we serve, and understanding the inequity they faced. Those lessons and experiences led me to election to Foster City Council position 2005-2013.

John also led me to begin volunteering at San Quentin. My empathy for those in need of compassion, support and love, grew as I witnessed these men which was a life changer for me.

I now serve my community on: • Police Activities Board 2007 – present • HEART Board 2010 – present • First Five County Commission 2015 – present • Samaritan House Advisory Committee 2017 – present • Board of LEMO Foundation – Taufoou Family 2010 - present • Foster City Rotary 2002 – present

My son, Jason and his wife Julie and my son, Daniel, and his wife, Julie, have blessed me with 4 grandsons, Lucas, Nico, Nolan and Luca. They are the reward life gifted me for raising my sons. They make my heart smile with absolute JOY!

My passions are golf, reading, meditating, tending my garden and the love of friends I hold dear. They have filled my life with friendship and I’m grateful every day.Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want but the realization of How Much you already have. I am content.

– Pam Frisella, John Kelly Heart of Samaritan House Award receipient
