THE OFFICIAL NEWSLETTER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA MARCHING BAND AND THE CAL BAND ALUMNI ASSOCIATION The Giants’ Victory Parade Brynna Quillin, alto ‘09 After 56 long, torturous years, the finally won their first World Series championship since moving to the City by the Bay. While not all Cal Bandsmen are Giants fans, everyone who attended the Giants’ Victory Parade regarded it as a day they’ll never forget. On November 3rd, two days after winning the World Series in Texas, the Cal Band arrived in San Francisco for the traditional championship victory parade. Many Cal Bandsmen saw this as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity and a few were even excused from midterms to participate. From the moment we got off the bus, we could feel the magic in the air. People sat on every rooftop, looked out from office building windows, and lined every street in sight. It was a sea of orange, black, and panda hats. We got in line for the parade and soon realized that we had the honor of leading the Parade of Champions down the streets of San Francisco. As we waited in line, we got to meet the Giants’ beloved announcers, , and , who all looked just as excited as we were to be there. Before the parade started, we played a short set for the people nearby. The fans were especially thrilled when we played two Giants’ anthems, “Don’t Stop Believing” and “Lights” by the San Francisco band Journey.
