In the book of Acts 2:1-40, we hear the account of how the Holy Spirit entered the Apostles and they immediately go out into the city and begin preaching the Gospel with authority and knowledge. Up to this point, the apostles did not comprehend the experience of Christ or Metropolitan Tikhon the elements of His life fully. Christ is Risen!

How wonderful it was to be able to be back in church for the Holy Week and Paschal services this year. It was bittersweet, as attendance was limited, but it was a step toward the celebration of Pascha that we had to the pandemic. It had some unique characteristics, since the center dining room was closed, baskets were blessed outside and some remained in the parking lot afterward to share food and celebrate the feast. There was the livestream as there was last year, but this year part of the procession was included. There was also the new experience of services at Annunciation Chapel which brought a different “flavor” to the celebration of I also have to thank Zach Mandell, the singers at the services, and the Feast. I am looking forward to next year when we can all the other directors who assisted. Most people forget that Zach has gather together again without limitations. Who knows, perhaps directed the full choir at a Liturgy only once, on January 5, 2020, some of the unique features of this year’s Paschal celebration when he came for his interview. The next Liturgy he directed here will continue into the future. was with a small group of singers on July 5, 2020. Since then he has worked diligently to get to know the singers and put together groups that sing well together and sang so beautifully for services throughout Great Lent, Holy Week, and Pascha.

By the time you’re reading this, the work on the restrooms in the parish center will be nearing completion, however, there is more work to be done in the parish center. A donor, who wishes to remain anonymous, has provided funds to remodel the floor and wall coverings in the hallways and entry areas of the parish center. This work will take place during the summer and will be completed by Labor Day. Work on the cathedral parapets, at least on the south side, will also be done this summer.

I’m writing this just as the pandemic restrictions are being lifted, I thank everyone for their patience and cooperation through these times as attendance at services was restricted, masks were There are so many people who volunteered to take care of all required, distancing was required. I ask for your continued that was needed to be done for the Holy Week and Paschal patience and cooperation as we transition out of this or if we services. There were those who took care of the flowers, should find ourselves having to go back to some restrictions decorating the church, organizing processions, participating in again. It will take time to “unwind” the procedures we have in the processions, watching the cathedral, and reading at the place, the choir will return to the loft but there is still work to be tomb when it was open between services, and other things I’ve done on wiring for microphones and to merge the small groups probably forgotten. back into a full choir.

I am hesitant to start listing names, since every person who Overall I’m sure it will be confusing for a time, with some volunteered deserves our heartfelt thanks and without a doubt I wearing masks and some not, some preferring to keep their would forget some, but given the uniqueness of the times there distance and some wanting to hug. Many Thanks! Through the last few months, some members of the choir have participated in Virtual Choral Sessions. None of this will occur in a “light-switch” fashion, things will not I must say, especially in light of the situation last year, there just “flick” back to normal. I don’t want any whiplash happening; was an extra layer of joy in those who I saw at these services anything with the neck isn’t great for singing anyway. All steps (and in myself!), without a doubt in seeing what was able to taken will be measured so as to minimize the risk of having to happen for Holy Week and Pascha: palpable, measured steps take steps back, and so that we can reacquire comfort in larger, forward, and a fullness for which we had been thirsting. We’ll get there, and we are getting ‘fullness’ can always be fuller. Indeed, every celebration of the there, my good people. Bear with me and we shall forge on.
