YEMEN: Conflicts in northern (August 2013)

The governorate of Sa’ada is controlled by Ansar Allah previously known as the A Houthis. Recently Ansar Allah has been consolidating their control over this governorate and expanding to the neighboring governorates of Amran, and Al-Jawf. There are about 103,014 IDPs and 70,000 returnees in Sa’ada. The last few weeks has seen an escalation of tensions, shelling and armed clashes between Ansar Allah and the Salafists of Dammaj and governorates of Al Jawf, Amran and . This has led to loss of lives, properties, livelihood and displacement. Since 2013 about 50 people have lost their lives. The impact of the armed clashes in Dammaj and other governorates in the north is having a severe impact on the humanitarian situation.
