INTRODUCTION

The Tandag Water District (TWD) was created on 4 December 1979, However, this was only made operational in 1991 by using groundwater of Tandag River as its source.

At the start of operation, there were only about 400 service connections primarily generated within four (4) barangays: San Agustin Sur (Dawis), Dagocdoc, Bag-ong Lungsod and Boongtud. Fourteen years after, service area stretches to ten barangays in the poblacion and one in Brgy. Buenavista, sufficiently supplied with potable drinking water. This water passes through intensive chlorination treatment as its disinfection process.

Under the strong leadership of its first and current General Manager, Engr. Ruben C. Elpa, the District, despite its independence, was able to transform itself from near scratch to an organization clothed in efficiency, competence, credibility and success.

Today, TWD boasts more than 7,000 service connections. And the District utilizes two sources: Tandag River and the Ihawan Spring in Brgy. Awasian. Underground water is withdrawn with the use of submersible and turbine pumps through an imbedded perforated collector pipe that passes through a 3-layer thick filter media made of pebbles in different sizes.

Tandag River through its Pumping station in Brgy. Quezon with its reservoir, located in Brgy. Bioto, having a 3.4 kms., distance from the pumping station, can only store 200 m3. Consequently, this is only used during peak hours and dry season to augment the water supply from the Ihawan Spring or periods of heavy rains when the Ihawan system shall be closed to prevent water turbidity. The Ihawan Spring serves to be the District’s primary source. A gravity - driven system, water is first stored in the impounding wall before it is piped to the collection box for disinfection along with chlorine to meet the standards of a potable water, and then set out ready for distribution via the 300mm.

TWD is managed by a team of experienced and trained staff, complemented by skilled workforce. Composing of 22 regular and a number of contractual personnel who see to it that every drop produced is enhanced with quality service and ensure that potable water flows around the clock into the concessionaires’ homes and businesses.

MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN

The Tandag City Water District, the main water service provider in the City has only one goal- to continually provide potable water to the people of Tandag 24/7. With the rise of commercial establishments, we aim to double our efforts to sustain our good service despite various factors such as climate change that affect the District’s operations. Mabuhay and we hope to be always of service to you all!

ENGR. RODULFO R. UY Chairman, Board of Directors

MESSAGE FROM THE

GENERAL MANAGER

As the capital of the province of Surigao del Sur, Tandag City has a booming economy. Apparently, this requires for increasing water supply requirements hence this will be a constant challenge to the Board, Management and Staff of Tandag City Water District.

We take this challenge to our advantage and avenue to generate funds in order to finance the District’s expansion projects and water sources development. Capital however is needed so we continue to look for funds through loans. We call this investment because it will eventually generate higher water sales by increasing number of customers.

This year’s target market growth is 400 concessionaires and I’m proud to say that we have almost doubled this projection. With continued efforts and marketing strategies, we hope to serve more people so there will be no more waterless areas in our locality.

Looking forward to 2017 with better if not excellent services from the TCWD!

ANNIE O. TY General Manager
