UP NEXT: The Dustdevils will head to Lubbock, Texas for their next set of games. TAMIU will face Lubbock Christian in a four-game Heartland Conference series on April 13-14. First pitch on April 13 is set for 1:00 p.m. Ryan flynn Fourth Season / Texas A&M International / 2009 Ryan Flynn is no stranger to TAMIU Baseball. Flynn enjoyed a three-year career at TAMIU before being appointed Head Coach in 2014. Flynn enters his fourth season as the Head Coach.

In March of 2016 Flynn was inducted into the Heartland Conference Hall of Fame. Flynn was honored at the Heartland Conference Basketball Tournament in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Flynn is the first player or coach to earn such an honor in TAMIU Athletics history.

Flynn transferred to TAMIU from Allegany College in Cumberland, Md. Flynn redshirted as he rehabilitated from ulnar collateral ligament reconstructive surgery. While pitching in the first round of the playoffs as a senior at Latrobe High School, Flynn suffered the injury and needed “Tommy John” surgery.

He had his UCL operation on June 13, 2004.

In the spring of 2006 Flynn played with Trojans of Allegany College. Flynn started every game at second base as the team went 50-10, finishing fourth in the NJCAA Division II World Series.

After his season with the Trojans, Flynn transferred in as a Dustdevil. From 2007-09, Flynn played 144 games to rank second on the TAMIU all-time leader’s list while starting all but one – to also rank second all-time. He litters other all-time statistical categories as well, including firsts in batting average (.372), RBI (121), walks (79), on-base percentage (.472), sacrifice flies (tied, 8), defensive assists (356).

He stands in the top five all-time in at-bats (second, 460), slugging percentage (third, .500), hits (second, 171), runs scored (second, 107), doubles (second, 30), home runs (fourth, 9), hit by pitch (tied for fourth, 16).

As far as single-season statistics go, Flynn is tied for the third-most games played (54) and tied for fourth-most games started (53) in 2008. He hit for the fourth- (.383) and fifth-highest (.374) batting averages in 2008 and 2007, respectively. He holds the sixth- and 10th-highest single-season slugging percentage (.525, 2009; .496, 2007), is tied for fourth-most (64, 2008) and eighth-most (58, 2009) hits in a season. Flynn scored 39 runs in 2007 to rank sixth all-time and 35 in 2009 to rank tied for seventh, and his 42, 40 and 39 single-season RBI totals rank Nos. 3-6, respectively.

His 13 doubles in 2008 are tied for the most in a TAMIU single season, while his six home runs in 2009 are tied for the third-highest single-season total. He tied for the fifth- and seventh-best walk totals in all three of his seasons with 27 in 2008 and 26 in both 2007 and 2009.All three of his single-season on-base percentages rank in the program’s top eight and his 130 defensive putouts in 2009 stand as the program’s fifth-highest total.

Flynn picked up a second-team All-Heartland Conference (second base) and two first-team All-Heartland Conference (shortstop, utility) recognitions from 2007-09.

After graduating from TAMIU, Flynn remained in Laredo to play for the Laredo Broncos of United League Baseball – an independent professional baseball league. In 2010, Flynn played 81 games with 317 plate appearances. He hit .282 with 75 hits, including 15 doubles and a triple. He stole seven bases, had 40 RBI and scored 34 runs. Flynn played 79 games at shortstop and four at third base, posting a .967 fielding percentage while only making 12 errors. The Broncos made the ULB postseason in 2010, falling in five games in the first round of the playoffs.
