Dear Student,

We, the Madrichim (social counselors), would like to welcome you to , Tel Aviv and Tel Aviv University!

The TAU International Office includes two aspects: academic and social. As Madrichim, we are in charge of all social activities such as trips, parties, cultural events and much more! Our goal is to expose you to the wide, diverse culture Israel has to offer, as well as to create a fun social experience!

Besides being able to find us in the office, we live here, in the dorms with you, thus making us available if you have any questions, problems, or if you just want to chat. You’ll also always find one of us in the TAU International Office (Carter Building Room 108) between 9am-3pm, Sunday-Thursday. Don’t be shy; you’re more than welcome to come visit us!

In short, we are here to help you find your way around, and to make your stay in Israel as enjoyable as possible. We hope you are eager to get to know and understand Israel by taking advantage of everything in the program, and what the country has to offer.

In addition to what you received in the Pre-departure Handbook, we prepared here some useful information that you can carry along with you when necessary. We are here for any questions! Below is our contact information for you to use.

. As a TAU International student, you are covered by Harel Health insurance, through the ‘Clalit’ clinics in Israel. . Please make sure to always carry your health card with you. . Call *2700 for the Clalit Hotline - Available 24/7. . For a doctor’s home visit, call 1800-262-660 and a doctor will arrive to your dorm or apartment within 3 hours. . Information for Dormitory Residents

We welcome you to the Einstein and Broshim Dormitories. Note that all rules and regulations may be found on the Student Dormitory Regulations page; the following below is a brief summary. Please read this document in order to help you understand the norms and behavior expected of you in the living quarters.

Apartments Every apartment has a kitchen equipped with: a refrigerator, electric stove, microwave, dining table and chairs. Please take good care of these appliances and keep them clean, especially the refrigerator (defrost it if necessary.) Fire Alarm System: Smoke detectors are located in all apartments and public areas. It is strictly forbidden to alter or disable them in any way. In every room in Einstein dorms there are two beds, two desks, two bookcases, closets, an air conditioner, TV and remotes. In Broshim dorms you’ll find a single bed, a desk, a table, a bookcase, closet, AC, TV and remotes. Residents are responsible for keeping all the appliances and furniture clean, intact and in good working order.

You are forbidden to make change the apartment locks, or any other structural changes to the apartments. Do not paint, drill or use nails and thumbtacks to hang items on the walls. Residents who disregard these instructions will be charged for the cost of repairing any damage to the rooms once they check out.

Inspection and Renovations Employees of the dorms operating staff and/or their associates may enter any room/ apartment after giving prior notice to its residents in order to execute maintenance works, repairs and renovations as necessary. In the event of an emergency the aforementioned persons may enter a room/apartment without giving prior notice to prevent harm to peoples or property.

Security . Security guards man the main entrance to the dorms 24 hours a day 7 days a week. Each evening a reinforced security patrol is active from 7pm until the next morning. All public areas are equipped with security cameras. . Entrance to the dorms is facilitated exclusively by a personal FOB. In order to be issued a chip (FOB), come to the OSP international office to be photographed and fill out a request form. . The residents are responsible for their personal property and valuables. Residents are to lock the doors to the apartment and room when vacant. Neither the dorms nor the University will be held responsible for lost or stolen property.

Guard Stand on the Main Gate

Only in a case of emergency, you can contact the guard of the dorms at this number: 053-8527674.

Visitors and Guests . Guests are not allowed to remain in the dorms after 11pm. . Hosting guests overnight or after 11pm is not allowed without a formal approval from the dorm management. Additionally, a resident will be held personally responsible for the actions of his guests in the dormitory. . A resident can host overnight to twice a week, but a formal request has to be approved by the management office. . Please go to the dorms management office to fill out a request during there working hours, and provide all information needed about your guest. The guest will have to present a formal identification card that includes full name, ID number and picture at the entrance to the dorms.

Noise: No parties are allowed. Please keep it quiet for people to sleep and study, especially between 2pm-4pm (resting hours) and after 11pm.

Garbage: All garbage must be disposed of in designated dumpsters and recycling bins outside the living quarters. Any garbage that is left in public areas such as the stairwells or hallways will lead to fines and repeat offenders may be expelled from the dorms. Breaking the rules leads to penalties and might lead to your expulsion from the dorms. We ask you to ensure a pleasant environment for living and studying.

Accommodation The Dorms Office Management is at the first floor of building E (in Einstein dorms) and in building B (in Broshim dorms). They’re available for maintenance problems, lost keys, hosting guests, etc. Open Sunday-Thursday, 8am-4:30pm. Phone number: 03-6408333.

Laundry . Self-service laundry is available in Einstein dorms, building E, ground floor. The price is 10NIS for one wash (30min) and 10Nis for 40 min of drying. Opens 24/7. Same in Broshim:) . For dry cleaning services, we recommend either: . Dr. Clean Laundry, Tagor St. 38, Tel: 03-6427098. Sun-Thurs, 8:00am-6:30pm, Fri: 8:00am-1:00pm Mahbesat HaMal'ahim, Brodetzky 15, 1700- 700-372. Sun- Thurs: 8am-22:30pm, Fri: 8am- 3pm Gym The gym at the dorms is free for the dorms residents. Opening hours: Sunday- Thursday: 5pm-9pm. Friday: 9am-1pm Saturday: 5pm-9pm.

. Bezeq Bein-Leumi (connection problems) Call Customer Service at 1700-555-222, our customer number is 101245310. . If the problem is not resolved please send an email with: your name, phone number, building and flat. Describe your problem and send it to: [email protected], cc to [email protected]. Please write the hours that you'll be available on the phone and present in your dorm room, and the representative of the internet company will call you back.

Sports and Fitness Dorms Gym: The entrance to the dorms' gym is in building F, Einstein dorms. Gym hours: Sunday-Thursday 5pm-9pm, Friday 9am-12pm. Please present your dorms' entrance chip to the Gym instructor. Entry to the gym is only permitted to the dorms' residents and with appropriate sports' clothing and towel.

Elite Sports Center: Facilities include: Swimming pool, gym, fitness and recreational facilities. The center is located 5 minutes’ walk from the dorms. Please bring page 5 from your medical form (Sports & activities health confirmation) to register. 03-6407291 or website

HaYarkon Park: This is a great place to walk, run, or do other types of sport and fitness outdoors such as bike, wall-climb, basketball soccer and outdoor leisure. To get there, walk south on Chaim Levanon Street until you reach Namir Street, turn left on Namir and continue walking south until you reach the park just after crossing below the overpass of Rokach and Namir.

Banks and Currency Changing It is recommended to go in person to the bank rather than call. There’s an ATM outside every bank. These are the banks that are less than 10 minutes walk from the dorms:

‘Rav-Kav’ is a rechargeable electronic bus and train card that provides students with discounted rates. Please check which ‘Rav-Kav’ student profile suits you best. ‘Student’ is a semester/ year program that can be worthwhile if you use it daily. You can also get a regular Rav Kav with 30% student discount. To be issued a Rav kav, you will need to bring your student card and a proof of study’s form, (printed out for you by us at the TAU International office upon request!) to the Arlozorov Bus Station or the Central Bus Station (7th floor), during their working hours, Sunday -Thursday 8am-6pm, Friday 8am-1pm.

MAKE SURE YOU KNOW: . If you ask, your driver has to put the meter (“MONEH”) . To Tel Aviv center should cost NIS 40-60, not more!

Public Transportation- FREE APPS . Moovit- defines where you are and where you wish to get to and it will tell you the most short / easy way to get there, either by walking, taking a bus or a train. Includes maps and schedules of buses and trains all around Israel. The app supports 16 languages. . Gett- Insert your credit card details and then you can get a taxi wherever you are without worrying about having cash on you. This is what Israelis use instead of Uber, which does not operate here in Israel.
