12 13 LEARNING & MEMORIES @ CSUMB!!!
A golden opportunity one can ever get as a student is to a ain an interna onal exposure. It was like a dream come true and that too on a scholarship to a end the summer program at California State University, Monterey Bay, USA. From academic to industrial exposure to gaining experience at CSUMB was all perfect. Dean of School of Business, CSUMB, Dr. Shyam Kamath and his team, are really great people whom one cannot forget ever in life. The lodging, food, academics and the industrial visits were so structured that we could accumulate a lot in the two months course. We had four subjects - Business Model Genera on, Venture Forma on, Interna onal Compara ve Management and Foreign Market Entry Strategies. Apart from these we also made a marke ng plan for our self-developed product for launching it in the US market. We also had a lot of other projects and presenta ons. Our industrial visits included both government and non-government organisa ons in the Silicon Valley and Salinas Valley. Through the visits we came to know a lot about the policies and steps taken by the Government of USA to help the new startups. Mee ng with CEOs and Managing Directors of various types of business organisa ons gave us a clear picture of the history, strategies and also the reason behind their success. Exchanging words with such eminent personali es made us self-mo vated towards our goals. Mike Fox (CEO of “Goodwill of Silicon Valley), Ted Belastreri (CEO of Cannery Row Company in Salinas Valley), Cindy Merzon from Small Business Development Corpora on and Ray Griffin (Managing Director of Robinson Fresh) – they just changed our percep on towards the corporate and its people. The scenic beauty of this place is just not possible to pen down in words. We visited a lot of places in Monterey Bay like Santa Cruz Boardwalk, Big Sur, Pebble Beach, San Carlos Beach, Carmel Beach, Sand City Beach, Marina, Salinas, Monterey Bay Aquarium, Whale Watching Cruise, Point Lobos, Sunset Point, Lover's Point and Pacific Grove etc. In San Francisco we saw the Golden Gate Bridge, Museum, China Market, San Bruno etc.
During our visit we had a lot of fun with the Dean Dr. Shyam Kamath, his wife Dr. Kiran Kamath, Dr. Babita Gupta, Dr. Sumadhur Shakya, Prof. Al Budris, Prof. Bradley Barbeau and Prof. Nicholas Dahan. Dr. Babita hosted us to an Indian lunch at her residence. They are just unbelievable in their ways, every me we got the best possible treatment which was most of the me unexpected. Lastly, we would say we have made a family over there which is going to be with us all through our life. We have not only learned a lot, but also earned the precious rela onships and memories that we shall cherish for long.
