Avenir is a geometric sans serif intended to be modern but humane. It was designed by Adrian in 1988, and drew inspiration from popular sans serifs of that time, including , O F , and . Like Erbar and Futura, Avenir can be classified as a constructivist typeface, but it’s neither purely geometric nor linear, making the typesetting more legible. Avenir is French for the word future; a name that appropriately describes the type’s fresh-take on traditional geometric sans serifs. A combination between neutralism and modernism makes Avenir stylish yet refined and natural. It also makes it extremely versatile. Avenir can make a beautiful T H E display type for headlines, or it can be used as a legible alternative to a serif in body type. Avenir is just a sample of the creativity and innovation to come out of the 1988. In the same year, Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemeckis released their cutting-edge comedy, Who Framed Roger Rabbit. Mixing traditional animation with state-of-the-art techniques, Zemeckis and Spielberg were able to create a visual marvel unlike anything before it, much like Avenir. The film was produced through Disney and featured many Disney stars, but it also featured characters from Disney’s rival studios, like Warner Brothers, Paramount and MGM. Part the films notability comes T Y P E from this combination of unlikely properties, much like Avenir and its combination of elements from varying, iconic . Endless continuity between Avenir and Who Framed Roger Rabbit can be made, which is why, throughout this experience, you will see small quotes from, and references to the film. So go ahead: “search the place, boys, and leave no stone unturned.” F F

Now, let me give you the low-down: This project took approximately... 1 Bag of Cape Cod Kettle-Cooked Chips. 1 Stomach Ache. R T A T 1 Too Few Showers. 1 Too Many Moans and Groans. 1 ( +some ) Calls to Mom. 1 Hour of Sleep. Total. In A Week. ( rounding up ) 1 Devoted ( slightly over-dramatic ) Designer.

T A C K Okay but really... This project was completed using Yosemite OS X & Adobe InDesign CC

And it couldn't have been done without... GRA437 : Typography Professor Claudia Strong The S.I Newhouse School of Public Communications and of course, Stephen Speilberg. That pretty much sums it up. [ I told you you'd learn lots.]
