December 1, 2020 For Immediate Release Listen to Dezron Douglas & Brandee Younger Cover The Stylistics’ “You Make Me Feel Brand New” From New Album, Force Majeure, Out This Friday on International Anthem (Photo by Deneka Peniston) "Compiled from a soul-affirming livestream series that they shared from their Harlem apartment, [Force Majeure is] a portrait of resilience, solidarity and reassurance.” — WBGO “Modal jazz classics by Pharoah Sanders and the Coltranes rub shoulders with heavenly, harmonically rich readings of soul standards such as You Make Me Feel Brand New by the Stylistics and Clifton Davis’s Never Can Say Goodbye, with Younger lurching from modal flourishes to the more chromatic, bop-influenced improvisations of Dorothy Ashby.” — The Guardian (“Contemporary Album of the Month,” 4 stars) “Building on their weekly livestream and recorded in their living room with a single microphone, Force Majeure finds the duo swimming freely between the great canon of jazz compositions and familiar, contemporary popular songs.” — Bandcamp (“Album of the Day”) Bassist Dezron Douglas and harpist Brandee Younger will release their debut album as a duo, Force Majeure, this Friday on International Anthem. Today, they present new single, “You Make Me Feel Brand New,” a cover of The Stylistics’ classic, written by Thom Bell and Linda Creed. It follows previous singles, the pair’s “warm and inviting” (Stereogum) cover of Pharoah Sanders & Leon Thomas’ “The Creator Has A Master Plan,” and “Sing,” which was originally written by Joe Raposo for Sesame Street. Douglas & Younger’s rendition of “You Make Me Feel Brand New” opens with light, magnetic flutters from Younger’s harp and strolling plucks on Douglas’ bass.

THE DISCO F ILES 1973-78 New York’s Underground, Week by Week by Vince Aletti xxx xxx Rolling Stone August 28, 1975 Dancing Madness By Vince Aletti NEW YORK – It’s not easy to pin down the disco craze with figures. As one independent mixer of disco singles explained, “The numbers are growing so fast. Every day I get four or five invitations to grand openings of new clubs.” But even the rough estimates of disco scene observers are revealing: 2000 discos from coast to coast, 200 to 300 in New York alone – the uncrowned capital of dancing madness, where an estimated 200,000 dancers make the weekly club pilgrimage. And when disco people like a record, it can become a hit-regardless of radio play. Take Consumer Rapport’s “Ease On down The Road.” Released on tiny Wing and a Prayer Records, it sold more than 100,000 copies in New York in its first two weeks before it was picked up on the radio. Discos and what has come to be known as disco music have turned out to be, if not the Next Big Thing everyone in the music business was waiting for, then the closest thing to it in years. Discos have opened in old warehouses, steak restaurants, unused hotel ballrooms and singles bars... any place you could stick a ceiling full of flashing, colored lights, a mirrored ball, two turntables, a battery of speakers, a mixer and a DJ. In a recession economy, they’re a bargain both for the club owner – who has few expenses after his initial setup investment and an average $50-a-night salary to the DJ – and the patrons, who can dance nonstop all night for a fraction of the cost of a concert ticket.

"'They Only Come Out At Night' was sounds, heartbeat tempos and dynamic performances, First Choice has to be con- flatly a commercial attempt, and it worked. It was different than anything I'd done sidered a number one performing trio. Lead singer Rochelle has a full lusty sound before. I started out heavily influenced by Cannonball Adderly and John Coltrane, and which is beautifully supported by Annette and Joyce. Their recording performances recorded 'Entrance,' which is still my favorite album. It was too weird for people and are works of art; all on Philly Groove Records. Georgie Woods (WDAS, Philadelphia), didn't sell. Next came White Trash (which featured Jerry LaCroix on vocals and Rick brought the group to the attention of producer Stan Watson, Philly Groove president Derringer on guitar) who were into Texas R&B funky stuff. I wanted to expand and and co -producer with Norman Harris. The gals worked the local clubs to get their they didn't, so I left." Although "Roadwork," released in 1972, was a fairly big seller thing together. They had one release on Scepter, "The House Where Love Died." for Edgar and the band, when Winter departed, he was in debt. But, it was with the smash single, "Armed And Extremely Dangerous" which served "The thing was," continues Edgar, his eyes darting from side to side, "I was turned as the springboard to national acclaim.
