NOTES TO THE BALANCE SHEET FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 APRIL 2013

Note 4 Opening Balances

The Directors of SV have determined that it is not practical to have the opening balances of each asset and liability account included in the 2013 financial statements audited. In prior periods (up to and including the 2011 financial year) various assets and liabilities controlled by SV were not reflected in the balance sheet that was audited and provided to members. That decision was made by the directors in place at that time.

In 2012 the Finance Committee made a decision that, in accordance with accounting standards and the Associations Incorporation Act, all assets and liabilities under the control of SV should be reflected in the financial statements. Those 2012 accounts were not audited (as disclosed at the 2012 AGM).

The work that would now be required by the newly appointed auditor to confirm the opening balances is not considered cost effective. The EO and Finance Committee have done considerable work in ensuring that the opening balances were accurate, given in some cases the quality of records available. The closing balances of all assets and liabilities under the control of SV as at 30 April are, in the opinion of the directors, accurate and those balances have been audited.

The increase in net assets arising from these adjustments has been added directly to equity via opening retained earnings rather than introduced as current year income
