STOCK THE SHELVES FAQ 2019

Since 2010, Stock the Shelves has raised over $4.5 million to feed Wisconsin families facing hunger. For the 2019 campaign, the USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin has updated and refreshed the program in an effort to grow the program and streamline the process in order to get food into the hands of those who need it most.

In an effort to stay true to the name of the program, our focus is to truly stock the shelves of the people in our communities by using the gifts made by the community to purchase healthy food that is in demand and get it to the pantries as quickly and efficiently as possible. We want to make sure that all our partners understand how the program will work this year and moving forward.

When is the Stock the Shelves campaign?

The Stock the Shelves campaign will run from October 1-31, 2019.

During the campaign timeframe, eligible food pantries in these markets will receive a survey to determine the top food needs. This will inform the type of food that will be purchased with monies raised by this campaign.

How will the purchased food be distributed across the markets?

Food will be allocated to the markets based on the amount of funds raised in each community. Food will be made available through Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s online ordering system and can be picked up at either of Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin locations in Milwaukee or Little Chute or through their network of drop sites/deliveries. Food will be available a soon as possible after the campaign is complete and totals have been tallied. By pooling food orders from across the markets, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin can leverage their buying power will be able to purchase more healthy, quality food.

What is Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s role in Stock the Shelves?

Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin will handle the administrative work connected with the program including collecting donations, tracking gifts, acknowledging and receipting all donors, bringing matching donors to the table to increase funding, assisting with marketing, etc. This will streamline the campaign and shorten the timeframe between fundraising and food distribution.

As a food bank, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin will work with partners to determine food needs, purchase the food, and distribute it free of charge.
