In various inter- views Barks had referred to the “Landon correspondence course in cartooning” he’d taken when he was sixteen. Fascinated, I tried to find a copy of Landon’s course. After a couple of years of searching on eBay and other auction houses – where I was only able to find partial copies – I finally tracked down a com- plete copy from a New York rare book dealer. In the meantime, my research revealed that more than a few cartoonists from Barks’s generation had taken the Landon course. -
