AAAAA By Fletcher Proctor Girls Two-time defending champion Norcross will face undefeated Parkview in the quarterfinals as both teams enter the contest ranked in the top four of the Score Atlanta poll. Diamond DeShields of Norcross had 29 points, nine steals and six rebounds in round one, then had 22 in a win over Marietta. The Panthers moved to 30-0 on the season with a 48-16 win over North Forsyth in the second round. Erika Joseph contrib- uted 12 points and Marissa Mandeldove added 10 points in the victory. North Cobb will meet Hillgrove after the Warriors escaped a trip to Lowndes with a 57-50 win in the second round. North Cobb’s Amber Reeves tossed in four 3-pointers and 18 points in the win. Meanwhile, Hillgrove center Mackenzie Engram had 16 points, seven rebounds and five blocks for the Hawks in a 50-48 win over Stephenson. Watch out for Celina Rodrigo as well for Hillgrove. Region 7 foes North Gwinnett and Mill Creek will meet in the quarterfinals after Mill Creek edged Alpharetta 51-49 and North Gwinnett rallied to take out Woodstock 60-55. Nadiya Miller and Jasmine Carter will pace the Hawks while junior standout Lexie Brown (20 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists vs. Woodstock) and Ariel Johnson (20 points) will help power the Bulldogs. Watch the finals BOYS North Gwinnett has been to the playoffs before, but Norcross transfer Chris Bolden brought live on gpb tv and championship experience to the Bulldogs program this year. Bolden will play for Georgia Tech next season but his high-flying prowess has North Gwinnett thinking about a deep playoff run this season. The Milton Eagles are on a mission to reach a third straight championship game. Last year Milton fell to Norcross one year after winning the title. Charles Mann, Tevin Glass, Evan Nolte and Shaq Johnson gpb.org/sports are a few of the horses that David Boyd will look to ride to yet another title. Nolte is the only member of those four already with a ring. Berkmar has Yonel Brown in the backcourt, but without Adonai Rogers and Tim Rowe, the Patriots certainly wouldn’t be where they are right now. Rowe is a double-double machine while Rogers was named to the All-Region team. North Cobb was finally tested in the play- offs, edging Stephenson 60-57 after throttling Bradwell Institute 78-41. Lee Moore had 20 points in the first round and can bomb from downtown. Saxon Steele can also fill up a scorer’s book. Harrison, Alpharetta, ML King and Savannah fill out the Elite Eight.

AAAA By Ricky Dimon Viewers Girls Fayette County rolled to the state championship last year, winning all of its tournament games by double digits. The Tigers’ title defense got off to a strong start as they took care of Lovejoy 65-27 and Northside-Warner Robins 54-43. A blockbuster quarterfinal against Jonesboro is up next for John Strick- land’s team. The Lady Cardinals, No. 5 in the state and led by center Kim Dawkins, are coming off double- digit victories over Woodland-Henry and seventh-ranked Statesboro. Southwest DeKalb, the 2010 champion, had to go on the road for its first two games after earning the No. 3 seed out of a loaded Region 6. The Panthers defeated Kell 63-49 before edging Creekview 44-39. Next up is an all-Region 6 showdown against rival Chamblee, which followed up a 54-47 upset of Douglas County by pulling out a 56-54 thriller over Habersham Central. Chamblee is 2-0 against Southwest DeKalb Guide this season, having won by three points in the regular season and by 18 in the region semifinals. Three teams from Region 6 are still alive, with No. 1 seed Miller Grove set to take on Rome. The third-ranked Wolverines crushed Chapel Hill 73-45 then battled past Forsyth Central 52-45. The sister duo of Tabitha Fudge and Klarrisa Weaver has been a force for Miller Grove and the two girls combined for 34 points in their state opener. AA By Chris Lionetti Girls No. 4 Buford, last year’s AA champion, almost had its hopes of repeating as champions shattered by North Oconee, but battled to a 53-45 victory. Kaela Davis topped 20 points for the second time in the playoffs and has been a force for Buford. Her play will play a large role in how Buford fares against No. 8 Heard County in the quarterfinals. The Lady Braves, meanwhile, are coming off an overtime victory and will be looking to avenge last year’s second round loss to the Lady Wolves. With its 25-game winning streak on the line, No. 3 Model managed to fend off No. 9 Greater Atlanta Christian to reach the quarterfinals. The Lady Blue Devils are arguably the hottest team in AA and takes on No. 7 Lovett in the quarterfinals. Lovett is coming off a thrilling 44-43 victory in the second round, thanks to Sydney Umeri’s jumper with 18 seconds left in the game. Any hopes of cooling off Model will rely on Lovett’s Tatianna Jackson. Jackson has been the team’s leading scorer in their past two games, with 31 in the first round and 19 in the second. After coasting past Albany in the second round, No. 1 Morgan County will tip off against No. 2 Laney game.
