WAWRINKA’S RUN, BAGHDATIS’ DROUGHT AT STAKE SATURDAY

 FINALS PREVIEW: No. 2 seed hasn’t lost a final in three years. Unseeded hasn’t won one in six. Both streaks will snap or survive when Wawrinka and Baghdatis clash for the Dubai singles title on Saturday. In the doubles final, and play for their first team title against Doha champions Feliciano Lopez and Marc Lopez. Neither the Italians nor the Spaniards have dropped a set in Dubai this week.

All six finalists are over the age of 30, with Wawrinka and Baghdatis born 81 days apart. Though he never met Baghdatis on the ITF Juniors Circuit, Wawrinka has dominated the Cypriot on the ATP World Tour, sweeping all five of their FedEx ATP Head 2 Head meetings. Wawrinka has also won his last eight finals, including a pair of Grand Slams, dating back to 2013 ’s-Hertogenbosch. Baghdatis, on the other hand, is 0-4 in finals since winning his fourth title at 2010 Sydney.

Like Baghdatis, Bolelli and Seppi are in a title drought. The Italians are 23-35 as a team, including a 6-0, 6-1 first-round loss to Jeremy Chardy and Lukas Rosol last year in Dubai. This week, Bolelli and Seppi have not lost more than four games in a set, highlighted by their quarter-final victory over and doubles champion . Lopez and Lopez also earned an impressive win, beating top seeds Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau on Wednesday.
