Manhattan President Gale A. Brewer (D)

Hello, my name is , Democratic Candidate for . For over 40 years, including more than a decade of progressive and productive leadership on the City Council, I have led the way to create more fairness and opportunity, make government accessible and transparent, and nurture a higher quality of life in our City. I have a vision to accomplish the goals and meet the challenges New Yorkers face now and in the future. As Manhattan Borough President, I will use my 40 years of experience to bring innovative leadership that works for you. Since 2002, I have represented the and northern Clinton on the City Council, where I successfully passed: the nation's first law protecting domestic workers; a landmark Open Data Law; an expansion of broadband internet access; the creation of the Bed Bug Advisory Board; improved housing conditions; measures to eliminate graffiti, scraffiti and unwanted locksmith stickers; a ban on smoking in City parks and beaches; and I authored the City's Paid Sick Leave bill so workers won't have to bring their illness into the workplace to earn the wage they need to get by. I earned my Master's Degree from Harvard's Kennedy School of Government and teach Urban Policy at Barnard College and CUNY colleges across the city, including Baruch and Hunter Colleges. As Manhattan Borough President, I will work for you by: Fighting for fairness and opportunity, exposing inequalities where they exist and working with the community to maintain the character of our neighborhoods; and increasing our quality of life by developing technology and community programs that identify and swiftly solve problems so our neighborhoods are cleaner, safer and happier.
