Persuitnodiging Yanina Wickmayer gaat Play Unified-uitdaging aan! Persuitnodiging: Yanina, Sabine Appelmans en twee Special Olympics-atleten spelen een unified dubbelmatch op maandag 14 november Deze zomer werd Yanina Wickmayer uitgedaagd door Special Olympics-atlete Lies Gielis om samen een unified-wedstrijd te spelen. De atlete deed dit met een groot spandoek van zichzelf aan Yanina’s tennisveld met de volgende boodschap op: “Yanina, balletje slaan? Ik ben alvast in vorm.” De dag erna accepteerde Yanina de uitdaging met veel enthousiasme. “Hey Lies, challenge accepted. #PlayUnified” stond er te lezen op haar facebookpagina. En ook Kim Clijsters sprong op de boot en stelde spontaan de Kim Clijsters Academy ter beschikking . De wedstrijd kadert in de Play Unified- campagne van Special Olympics Belgium die samen sporten promoot waarbij mensen met en zonder verstandelijke beperking in dezelfde ploeg of dezelfde club kunnen trainen en sporten. Yanina en Lies gaan de uitdaging aan op maandag 14 november in het gezelschap van Sabine Appelmans en Special Olympics-atlete Kim Lodewijckx. Ze zullen een unified dubbelwedstrijd spelen waarbij ieder team bestaat uit één Special Olympics-atlete en één Unified-partner. Afspraak om 13u45 op de tennisvelden van de Kim Clijsters Academy in Bree (Watertorenstraat 16, 3960 Bree). Gelieve op voorhand uw accreditatie en interviewaanvragen door te geven via [email protected] “Na basketbal, voetbal en atletiek, is het nu de beurt aan tennis, super! The best-of-five match series will take place on an outdoor clay court at Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa Bay. The United States is competing in its first Fed Cup Semifinal since 2010. Captain Rinaldi named 2017 Australian Open semifinalist and world No. 24 CoCo Vandeweghe, No. 36 Lauren Davis, No. 49 Shelby Rogers, and world No. 1 doubles player and 2017 Australian Open women’s doubles champion Bethanie Mattek-Sands to the U.S. team. Vandeweghe, Rogers, and Mattek- Sands were all part of the team that swept Germany, 4-0, earlier this year in Maui. -

Winning the title at each major in the same year is known as the “Grand Slam”. Three women have completed the singles Grand Slam in a calendar year: 1953 – Maureen Connolly; 1970 – Margaret Court; 1988 – Stefanie Graf. A further seven women have won each Grand Slam singles title at least once in their careers (known as the career Grand Slam): Doris Hart, Shirley Fry, Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Martina Navratilova, Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova, with Navratilova (1983-84) and Williams (2002-03, 2014-15) holding all four titles at the same time. Australia’s Margaret Court holds the record for all-time Grand Slam singles titles (men or women) with 24 titles, ahead of Serena Williams, who holds the Open Era record with 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
