Junior/senior students and parents: We would like to invite you to join the Corona counseling department for a night you will not want to miss: Understanding Scholarships and Other Forms of Aid. This presentation is at Corona on Tuesday, January 22 at 6 pm in Lecture Hall B. http://signup.com/go/gohheDG

Scholarships are another source of aid to pay for tuition, books, and other school expenses. Scholarships come from a variety of sources: schools, employers, individuals, private companies, nonprofits, faith-based organizations, or professional organizations. These sources offer scholarships for a variety of reasons. Some are offered to students that have financial need. Some scholarships have academic requirements, like a certain GPA or enrollment in a particular major. There are athletic, music and art scholarships. There are scholarships for first generation students and some for students with certain community affiliations or religious affiliations. Because scholarships are offered for different reasons and by many sources, it is important that you and your student understand each scholarship has its own requirements and deadlines. We hope to see you and your student in attendance.

Attendance Auto-Call: If you receive an automatic call stating your student missed first hour and you know you have already called to excuse your student, please disregard the auto-call. There is no need to call us again. Due to the high volume of attendance calls, it may take us a couple of hours to listen to your message/excuse your student.

Attendance Line: When your student is absent, please remember to call the Attendance office within 48 hours of the absence. Always include your student’s ID number.

Calculators: The CDS Math department recommends purchasing a Texas Instruments 84 TI-84 Plus CE graphing calculator. If you have questions, please email Don Guess at [email protected] or speak with your student’s math teacher.

No Holds: The Corona del Sol front office does not hold items for students to pick up, including lunch. The exception is your student’s ID. Please arrange to meet your student between classes to give other items during passing periods. We will not call students out of class to pick up items. Please call us at 480.752.8888 to find out the correct passing times.

Off-campus pass: For your student to receive an off-campus pass, a parent/guardian must call the attendance office on the day of the pass, at least one hour prior to the time of the pass. Students must have their CDS ID to leave. The attendance office will not give off-campus passes during lunch hours (10:15 am – 12:15 am). A parent/guardian must come in and sign the student out. Students feeling ill should report to the nurse. The nurse will contact the parent/guardian to release your student.

ParentVUE: If you need an access key or your account is disabled, please leave a message on our ParentVUE hotline and we will respond to you via email: 480.752.8775.

Skateboards: Please remember, no riding on skateboards on campus. Have your students bring locks and lock them up before entering campus. We do not hold them in the front office or the classrooms.

Please obey all the traffic signs around campus and remember there is no drop off or pickup on Knox Road in the West direction and No Parking on the north side of the street. The area is clearly marked No Parking. In addition, please, no U-turns on Knox Road – this is very dangerous. We greatly appreciate your help as we try to keep everyone safe. Drop off/pick up of students is allowed in the Rural Lot and on the South curb of Knox Rd. Drop off in the LDS church lot is not allowed.

Student IDs: All students are required to wear their IDs and they must be worn and visible at all times during the school day. Please help us keep our campus secure and remind your students to wear IDs.

The Corona baseball team has been out in the community serving others in need. They spent Christmas Eve at Saint Vincent de Paul serving meals to those in need. The group consisted of Corona baseball players, coaches and families. In all they served over 350 meals to those that came in.

They also teamed up with Feed My Starving Children on January 8 and boxed 57,652 meals in to 270 boxes that were going to be shipped to the Philippines. The meals that were packed was enough food to feel 158 people in the Philippines for an entire year. It is always great to see our programs getting out and helping where they can in the community.

Dear CTE Director,

Hello and Good Day! You are receiving this e-mail because you, your faculty and students are invited to attend our annual EVIT EXPO on Saturday, Jan. 26 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the EVIT Main Campus, 1601 W. Main St., in Mesa. This is an excellent opportunity for your school to see our campus and EVIT’s 40 Career and Technical Education programs.

This event will allow you to spend a few hours in many CTE programs. This event is similar to an open house so students can visit all programs and tour the facility. If they are interested in just a few programs, that is fine too. We will have business and industry partners here to further support our instructors, and also will be signing up students for The EVIT Experience, another event to be held later this spring in which students take an actual EVIT class for one Saturday to see what it’s like.

At the EVIT Expo, administrators, teachers, counselors and staff will be present to introduce themselves, talk about our CTE programs and answer any questions you may have. Lunch is available at the EVIT Bistro 13 restaurant until 12:30 p.m., and we will have other food vendors too for this family event that also includes trolley tours, games, and music provided by our student-run radio station, 88.7FM The Pulse. In addition to riding on traditional trolleys, Expo guests will have the opportunity to ride in Olli, an autonomous trolley that is being piloted this spring by Local Motors at the Main Campus.

Please share this information with your staff, students and families by forwarding this email and/or putting this event in your announcements. Adults can benefit by attending EVIT Expo too as our Adult Education @ EVIT department also offers career training and a GED program.

This is a great time for your students to experience EVIT on a non-school day. Many schools are providing school bus transportation for their high school students to attend. Buses should arrive at EVIT between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m. Bus parking is behind the Bistro on the east end of our campus. Bus departure should take place at 1:15 p.m.

We look forward to meeting you and giving you a quality experience in the Career and Technical Education field.

Best Regards,

Mark A. Yockus & Craig Pearson East Valley Institute of Technology 1601 W. Main St., Mesa, AZ 85201 480-461-4000/FAX:480-461-4169
