Summis: Parent Information Meeting – This year Motumaoho School has had funding approved to undertake professional development in Reading. We had a ‘Teacher Only Day’ on Tuesday 30th January where we designed our plan for the year. To strengthen the impact that this work will have with your children we have organised for our mentor to run a parent session next Wednesday 14th February @ 2:30pm in Room 1. The session will run for approximately 30 minutes and will outline to you how you can best support reading at home. We strongly suggest 1 parent from each family attend as it will greatly benefit you and your child/children. Welcome to Sarah Matherson – This year Mrs. Cheryl Hickford has been awarded the opportunity to become a Mathematics Support Teacher. This is a great opportunity for Cheryl and our school, as Cheryl will be supporting all our learners throughout the year in Mathematics. Part of the training requires Mrs. Hickford to complete a university paper. She will be off-site for 3 block courses, each 3-days long throughout the year. Miss Matherson will be in charge of Room 2 for all of the affected days. Other Professional Opportunities – Mr. Bertrand has secured a place on the Springboard Leadership Trust – a programme that grows strategic capabilities in Principals and works on many areas including growing the school roll. I will be off-site once a month for a morning as I meet with my mentor, who is an ASB rural manager. Miss Felicity Roberts is also taking part in ‘The Incredible Years’ programme. Miss Roberts will complete most of her programme here at school and will have visits from Mentors from time to time. School Camp – There is a separate notice attached outlining school camp 2018. Please note that Camp costs will not be invoiced as we require FULL payment prior to the camp week. We have endeavored to balance costs whilst still ensuring a fun and challenging camp for your children. The PTA have kindly donated some money to the camp to help keep food costs down. Thank you PTA. Teacher Only Day – Please note that as part of our Morrinsville Community of Learning obligations, Motumaoho School will be closed Monday 5th March and all staff will be attended a seminar / workshop at Morrinsville College. Please make alternative arrangements for that day. Absentees - Please ensure you notify us ASAP if your child is going to be absent and the reason for it. As parents and caregivers, you are obligated to ensure your children attend school every day and if a child is truant we, as a school, are required to monitor and report this to the Ministry. We need to record all absentees and the reason for the absentee, so it would be most helpful to have this information at the beginning of the day - even if it’s a text, message left on the phone or email. You can use the ‘Absentee’ button on the Skool Loop App (formally PTC) which takes you straight to those options. Sickness - For most of you who were here last year, we had a terrible run of children and staff falling ill due to a stomach bug during the last few weeks of school. Although sometimes spreading these illnesses can’t always be helped, we urge you to keep your child at home for 48 hours after the LAST EPISODE of any vomiting or diarrhoea and until well. Most illnesses require exclusion for at least this time. Triathlon – Our school Triathlon is Friday 23rd February. There will be more details closer to the time. For now, please mark it on your calendar. Lunch Orders – Chicken and Salad Burger / Beef and Salad burger $3.
