SEEDS GOFFIN, KARLOVIC, MANNARINO, HAASE IN QUARTERS

 DAY 5 PREVIEW: There are three seeds – No. 2 , No. 5 Ivo Karlovic and No. 6 leading the quarter-finals of the Topshelf Open. In addition, wild card is keeping Dutch title hopes alive. Four of the quarter-finalists are attempting to win their first career ATP World Tour title on Sunday. In the opening match on Center Court, Karlovic takes on Haase for the first time on the ATP World Tour. They met in the Zagreb Challenger in 2007 with the Dutchman winning two tie-breaks. In the next men’s match, qualifier meets Goffin for the second time. The Belgian won the previous meeting in straight sets in a playoff tie last September. On Court 1, Frenchmen qualifier and Mannarino square off for the second time here. Four years ago, Mahut won in the 1R 76 63. Mahut is the only former champion (2013) remaining in the draw. In the final match, big-serving Gilles Muller of Luxembourg faces Romanian wild card , who is appearing in his third career ATP World Tour quarter- final. They split two previous Challenger meetings in 2010 and ’13.

 HAASE LOCAL TITLE HOPE – Wild card Robin Haase, who is also the country’s top player at No. 83 in the Emirates ATP , is appearing in his first Topshelf Open quarter-final in eight attempt (5-7 record). Last year countryman advanced to the quarter-finals. The last Dutchman to reach the semi-finals or better here was wild card , who was runner-up in 2009 (l. to Becker). A pair of Dutchmen have lifted the champion’s trophy with triumphing in 1994 and '97 and clinching back-to-back titles in 2002-03.

 QUALIFIERS EYE SEMI-FINALS – Frenchman Nicolas Mahut and Ukrainian Illya Marchenko qualified into the main draw with three wins. Mahut won the title here two years ago as a qualifier and Marchenko is appearing in his first ATP World Tour quarter-final since St. Petersburg in October 2010 (l. to Kukushkin) when he reached the semi-finals. This is the fourth straight year at least one qualifier has advanced to the quarters or better here: 2015 – Nicolas Mahut, Illya Marchenko (in QF) 2014 – Joao Sousa (SF) 2013 – Nicolas Mahut (Winner), Jan Hernynch (QF) 2012 – (Runner-up) Qualifiers have enjoyed success here in the past 10 years with winning the title in 2009 and Mahut in 2013. Philipp Petzschner was runner-up in 2012 and in 2007. This season (Sydney) and Jiri Vesely (Auckland) have won ATP World Tour titles as qualifiers. There have been three other finalists: Aljaz Bedene (Chennai), (Sydney) and (Sao Paulo).
