Dear Church Family, It’s so exciting for us to finally be here at Redland. We already feel so at home here and are even more assured than before that this is where God wants us to be. The welcome we have received from you as a Church has been so generous and warm. We already feel loved and part of the family. We really want to say a CHILDREN AND YOUTH massive thank you to you all. As I (Will) said on our first Sunday we are both so encouraged to be joining a SUNDAY MORNINGS Church that genuinely loves , doesn’t want to stand still or accept the status quo and that wants to grow, both in love for God and in what it means At Redland, we want to see all children and young people flourish and thrive to be a presence of renewal in the world. as part of the church family. We all meet together each Sunday morning for We remember reading the Profile for the first time in June last year. the beginning of our service, before our young people go to their own groups (apart from the 1st Sunday of the month). Both of us were struck with how closely the call that God has put on our lives and the vision he has given us for his Church as a couple corresponded with the Crèche – dedicated play area at the back of the hall direction that you are seeking to grow as a Church. Two initial key priorities clearly stand out from the profile: SUNDAY EVENINGS

One: We need to ensure all we do helps us grow in the love of God so we CYFA - Sunday evenings - 6:30pm - 8:00pm (Halls unless stated.) become more like Jesus. We need to structure our life as a church so that we can help each other break through glass ceilings in our growth and discipleship. DURING THE WEEK

Two: There is a pressing need to develop our engagement with younger J-Zone - School Years 3 - 6 - Friday 6:00pm-7:30pm generations. In an area that demographically is 60% under 40 years old, The Zone - School Years 7 - 9 - Friday 7:30pm-9pm @ Redland Church Halls ignoring this issue would seem like neglecting the responsibility God has placed Dates: 13th March (J-Zone will meet as normal. We are J-Zone and The Zone all called to the work of being Church. This isn’t just a journey for the two of us, Cell Group inc Pizza & Study, Joint Boys & Girls - School Years 10 - 13 the core team or the PCC but for us as a whole Church. Staff Profile Name: Clare Nichols Role: Licensed Lay Minister Clare is Licensed Lay minister at Redland. She retired from General practice in 2009 and was licensed in 2010, thus starting a second career! She and Gerry have worshipped at Redland off and on since 1971, the year they got married. Clare and Gerry met while at university then settled in Bristol which is where Gerry was born and brought up. Clare finished her medical training here in Bristol, then did various hospital jobs. She finally went into General practice in 1994. Clare has done most things in the church over the years, from running Pathfinders to cleaning the church halls, working in Lantern preschool to being general dogsbody at Chat a Box holiday club.

Clare also has wider responsibilities in the . She is Sub Warden of LLM's for City Deanery, having pastoral responsibility for LLM's in the deanery, she is secretary of the LLM Council and on the deanery leadership team. Its good to be involved in the wider church.

We have just welcomed our fourth vicar to the Parish and look forward to his developing ministry amongst us. Redland has provided an amazing supportive church family for us, through the difficult years of infertility, then adoption, then having 3 children under 5! Not to mention those stressful teenage years. Now we appreciate being able to bring our grandchildren to church when we can!

Clare has loved being involved with children's work, with Lantern and REC and now with leading and preaching and the Pastoral care group. Now approaching her seventieth birthday, she is looking forward to doing a bit less and having more time for golf, gardening, reading, swimming and running; not to mention spending more time with her husband! Rev Margot Hodson of the John Ray Initiative (www.jri.org.uk) spoke of the links between Christians and the natural world and of the scriptural basis for creation concern.
