4 5 ADVANCED MANUFACTURING Advanced manufacturing plants use advanced technologies to create existing products and develop new products and processes. Advanced manufacturing can include production activities that depend on information, automation, computation, software, sensing, and networking. Computer-Aided Design and Drafting (CADD), Computer-Aided Manufacturing (CAM), Computer Numerical Control (CNC) and 3-D printing are all examples of the technologies that are a part of the advanced manufacturing processes of designing and producing products.

Bottled water, the cheese on your pizza, the cup your designer coffee comes in, the pen you write with, your washer and dryer at home, your cell phone – all of the things you experience or consume every day are examples of products produced in manufacturing plants that use advanced technologies.
