Charlton Mackrell Cofe Primary School History
Charlton Mackrell CofE Primary School History Education in The Charltons first began with Sunday Schools, but Church Daily Schools were started in both Charlton Mackrell and Charlton Adam in 1830. The school in Adam closed and an Infants School only was opened from 1865 until 1917. In 1846, Charlton Mackrell School had 82 pupils of all ages, but only one room and a small house for the teacher. We don't know whether it was on this site or in the grounds of the Rectory, which is now called "The Court". The Rector was the Reverend William Thomas Parr Brymer, who began a complete restoration of the church in 1847. We believe he also planned the unique school building, designed by the architect C E Giles, which we still enjoy today. Certainly in 1846 he left money in his will to pay for the schoolteacher and other running costs of the school, as recorded on the brass plaque near the altar in Charlton Mackrell Church. After he died in August 1852, his brother James Snaith Brymer paid for this school building as a memorial to him and the recent restoration of the main schoolroom ceiling has revealed the commemorative inscription around the walls. The first schoolteacher we know about was Miss Elizabeth Rooke, from London. She left early in 1853, perhaps due to the new school building. After her were schoolmasters, W. Jackson, W. Wrigley, and then William Tyler. William Tyler was the schoolmaster and the church organist for nearly 10 years from 1856. There were also paid pupil teachers and monitors, as well as a schoolmistress for the Infants class.

The date of the Annual Awards Night for 2019 is 29th November. This was omitted from the January meeting minutes. The Commodore at RNAS Yeovilton has given permission for our events there to go ahead. Our MOD License expires in March and the renewal requires an up to date Risk Assessment, EA Race License, and a copy of UKA Insurance documents. 3. 38 Thirty-eighth Annual Meeting, Upon the motion of the President, a vote of thanks was offered to Mr. Green, for the diligence with which he had collected his materials, and the manner in which he had thrown light upon the subject of his paper. Mr. Green then read a paper hy Mr. Kerslake, on Gifla,^’ which is printed in Part II. p. 16. Mr. Green expressed his opinion that the derivation of the name was not from the river Yeo, which was a modern name. The meeting then terminated. The morning was delightfully fine, and at 9.30, the carriages being in readiness, a goodly number of Members left Yeovil for lamctott liU/ which was regarded as the chief point of interest, not only of this day’s excursion, but of the whole meeting. After a pleasant drive, passing by Odcombe, the birth-place of Tom Coryate,^ the cortege entered the camp by “ Bedmore Barn,’^ the site of the discovery of the large hoard of Roman coins in 1882, and drew up at (1) belonging to Mr. Charles Trask. The party having assembled on the edge of one of the deep excavations, at the bottom of (2) which the workmen were engaged in quarrying the celebrated Ham-stone,” Mr. Trask was asked to say a few words about the quarries. Cllr Baker said that this was on the agenda for discussion. The resident also complained that a resident whose property had a garage and ample parking was parking in the Borough car park. Cllr Baker said that the parish council was not in the position to tell him not to park in the car park but will ask them to consider not parking there. The resident also asked about the National Trust residents and whether they should be parking in the National Trust car park not the Borough. Cllr Baker said that the Borough car park was a public car park, so he could not formally stop people. She had four husbands and many lovers, including King Ludwig I of Bavaria, his son King Otto of Greece, statesman Felix Schwarzenberg, and a Greek general (Christodoulos Hatzipetros). She died in Damascus, Syria, as the wife of Arab Sheikh Medjuel el Mezrab, who was 20 years her junior. Jane Elizabeth Digby was born in Forston House, near Minterne Magna, Dorset on 3 April 1807,[3] daughter of Admiral Henry Digby and Lady Jane Elizabeth. Jane's father seized the Spanish treasure ship Santa Brígida in 1799 and his share of the prize money established the family fortune. Marriages, scandal, and affairs Considered promiscuous for her times, Digby was first married to Edward Law, 2nd Baron Ellenborough (later Earl of Ellenborough), who became Governor General of India, on 15 October 1824. At the time of her marriage, she was described as tall, with a perfect figure. She had an attractive face, pale-gold hair, wide-spaced dark blue eyes, long dark eyelashes, and a pink complexion. They had one son, Arthur Dudley Law (15 February 1828 – 1 February 1830), who died in infancy. After affairs with her maternal cousin, Colonel George Anson, and Prince Felix Schwarzenberg, she was divorced from Lord Ellenborough in 1830 by an act of Parliament. This caused considerable scandal at the time. Digby had two children with Felix; Mathilde "Didi" (born 12 November 1829 Basel and raised by Felix's sister) and Felix (born December 1830 Paris) who died just a few weeks after his birth.
