Faculty of Arts & Sciences April 01, 2014, 3:30 – 5:00 pm Tidewater A, Sadler Center Dean Kate Conley called the meeting to order at 3:37 p.m. Attendance at the start of the meeting: 32 (no quorum, so we can hear reports but we cannot vote on anything – everyone loves reports, yes?) I. The minutes from March 11, 2014 were not approved (they were not even raised for discussion) the Secretary does not blame you, especially those of you who actually read her minutes. In the meantime, please note the following corrigenda. The mysterious Mikes were Michael Deschenes (Kinesiology) and – Mike Tierney (Government); further, Liz was not Liz Francis (Biology – not sure where that name came from) but rather Liz(abeth) Allison (Biology), who is in fact the chair, as the Secretary may have noticed had there been less haste (festina lente, as they say), and Herr Professor‐at‐the‐Back‐of‐the‐Room was none other than our very own award‐ winning Professor Paul Mapp. The secretary also regrets the slip of John for Tom Linneman (again, too much haste), with sincere thanks to Debbie Bebout (Chemistry) and John Gilmour (Government) – in alphabetical order – for the corrigenda. Perhaps the minutes, as corrected here, can be approved next time, or not. Soon enough it shall fall to someone else. http://www.wm.edu/as/facultyresources/fas/minutes/index.php II. Report of Administrative Officers: Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Kate Slevin on behalf of Provost Michael Halleran reported the following: her report would be mercifully short. Provost Halleran is currently in Washington – but desired the following to be conveyed: o Richmond is still locking horns over the Medicaid issue, and there is, as of yet, no resolution on the budget.

  • Chapter 1. Kathryn Janeway, Former Captain of the Federation Starship Voyager, Sat on the Bench She Had Just Cleaned of Snow
The end is the beginning by Kadyan Part 1 Chapter 1. Kathryn Janeway, former captain of the Federation Starship Voyager, sat on the bench she had just cleaned of snow. This year was so different from the last one. When they had arrived on Earth just before Christmas, surprising everyone, they had been the endless talk on the news. Interviews of the families, interviews of the crew, how they destroyed the Borg Queen… A year had passed by and nothing had been as she had expected. She had felt so guilty because she had stranded her ship in the Delta quadrant for seven years. During all these years, she had had only one goal: getting home. And now that she was home, her life was meaningless. Kathryn looked at the snow that covered her mother’s garden and all the fields around. Everything was frozen outside and inside her. How can one life so full have become so empty? She didn’t know…didn’t want to know. But now she had reached a point in her life where she had to decide. When has everything gone wrong? She knew when : the day Chakotay had asked her to step back and let Seven go. She had been hurt by the request on that day, a week after they had arrived on Earth, but she had stepped back. When she had received the invitation for their wedding, she had discarded it and didn’t attend. Seven had tried to contact her but she had never acknowledged, read or answered any of her messages.

  • Precise Timings
Episode 2.10 Precise Timings Voyager had never been so quiet, at least not since Neelix had tried to make his own cheese. Most corridors were empty, all stations had been abandoned, even quarters were abandoned. The only damage was contained to one room. "My beloved wall! You'll pay for that out of your rations!" Neelix screeched toward a person shaped dent in the wall by the door. Despite the rowdy noise from 150 plus people stuffed into and around the Mess Hall and the blaring music, everyone heard him. Who he had been yelling at only laughed despite the new ringing in his ears. "Put it on my tab," James said while repressing a smirk. Neelix could only puff his cheeks and watch him leave, this time through the doors. "A tab? What's that?" Neelix mumbled. He walked away through what little space there was amongst the crowd, towards his kitchen, the only empty part of Deck Two. "Computer...?" Nearby a turbolift arrived with only one person on board, and about twenty waiting to get in. Morgan scurried out before she was crushed, her eyes wide. "What the hell...?" she stuttered at the sight of the many people dotted around the corridor, blind stinking drunk and or already passed out. After five minutes of pushing her way through the crowds, Morgan ran into somebody she recognised. Fortunately she seemed normal enough to approach. "Mum?" Kathryn lifted her head up from the sofa, propping herself up uncomfortably on her elbows, leaving her legs sprawled out behind her and over the edge.

  • Voyager Season 9 Episode #10: Strange Bedfellows Vv8,Jetc.Org
Voyager Season 9 Episode #10: Strange Bedfellows Episode 9-10 - Strange Bedfellows By: Daya ([email protected]) "Shields at sixty percent," Tuvok called out over the din of the klaxons and the reports coming in from all stations of the ship. "And holding, Captain." No one needed to hear the unspoken 'for now' that hung in all their minds. A lancing bolt of red energy sizzled through the blackness of space around them and Voyager pitched hard to starboard, smoke billowing up from the science station, filling the bridge with gray plumes that turned the atmosphere murky with the eerie red of the battle lighting. Janeway looked towards Tuvok who nodded briefly and turned his attention back to the tactical reading he was collecting at his station. "Tuvok, keep on them with the pulse cannons. Mr. Paris, keep us moving. Don't give them a stationary target." Simultaneous acknowledgements from both men preceded Voyager's wild spin and weave, a complex maneuver, intricate in its dimension and beautiful in its execution. At the same moment, Voyager's cannons burst forth with pulses of light, like petals from a deadly flower, unerringly connecting with the Scout ships. As she clutched her seat, Janeway imagined the inertial dampeners hard pressed to keep up with Tom's maneuvering. If the situation weren't so dire that it would have been a thing of beauty to watch, but as it was she was grateful that Tom and Tuvok were earning their keep. "They aren't coming at us with everything they've got." Kathryn looked at Chakotay.

  • Piece of Conspiracy
Episode 1.21 Piece of Conspiracy Mess Hall: It was that time of the year again. Every year the room would be more empty than the previous, this year wasn't the exception. Only two tables were full and the so called volunteers didn't look in the right state to be volunteers for anything. People clapped awkwardly as the pair everyone were watching finished their dance with a bow. Their bow was followed by one of them leaning too far forward and falling head first onto the floor. "Um. That's Jenson and Evans everyone, cos why not. Every show needs a yearly tradition and this is it," Tom badly tried to improvise. "Who's next?" He was surprised to see a hand go up at first. He quickly realised it was only Kathryn on her twentieth cup of coffee. It would have been more but there was no more room for new cups on the table. "Mum, we've seen your talent, put your hand down," Morgan complained beside her. Kathryn giggled while she reached out to pinch her cheek. Of course Morgan recoiled until she ran out of room as well, doing so nearly knocked the poor ensign next to her out of his chair. "Oh, no volunteers," Tom said, averting his eyes from that particular table. There was only one left he could turn to. "I see there's two people in the audience who come every year but don't take part. Maybe it's time to..." "Oh sure, I've got this magic trick where I make teeth disappear," Jessie said in a fake sweet voice, but her eyes screamed danger.

  • Star Trek Apocalypse
STAR TREK APOCALYPSE by Mick L. FADE IN In the exterior of space, twinkling stars sparkle in the background. The title graphic fades in over on the stars then quickly fades out. A close view of the U.S.S. Voyager now fills the space as it speeds by with two Borg cubes and one sphere close behind. The chase envelops the whole area. Voyager looks just as glorious as ever as it tries to make some breathing room between them and the three Borg ships. The torpedo and phaser fire from the Borg ships light up the darkness of space as they impact on the Voyager ship. Voyager retaliates with a vengeance but produces little damage to the Borg ships. VOYAGER -- BRIDGE The room is dark as the lights are dimmed for 'red alert'. Sparks fly all around the bridge as the ship is hit by torpedo and phaser fire. CHAKOTAY stands in the middle of the ship; four pips sit prominently on his collar indicating his new rank of Captain. A new crewmember is stationed at tactical while TUVOK is sitting at the left hand of the Captain, as calm and composed just as a Vulcan should, now obviously the new first officer. Lieutenant Commander KYLE MELE holds his balance at the tactical station as the interior of the ship is rocked by weapons fire from outside. MELE Shields at seventy percent and falling fast! I can't fire the transphasic torpedoes without the ablative armor activated! CHAKOTAY HARRY, is there anyway to activate the armor without lowering our shields?! Another pip, indicating lieutenant, sits prominently on Harry Kim’s collar.
