Lawal continues rise up cruiserweight ranks on Saturday in Offenburg British cruiserweight prospect Mikael Lawal (6-0, 4 KOs) continues his rise up the professional ranks on Saturday, July 14 at the Baden Arena in Offenburg when he meets Istvan Kun (7-10-1, 4 KOs) on the Zeuge-Fielding undercard. Lawal, now 6-0, has made a promising start to his paid career. Fighting out of Stonebridge Boxing Club, the 23 year-old from Shepherd’s Bush returns following a fifth-round TKO win over Adam Williams at the Manchester Arena. “I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring and fighting on a big show in Germany,” says Lawal. “It will be a good opportunity to build my experience and grow my profile boxing on another big card. “Istvan Kun is a good opponent. He is the type of fighter who likes to come forward but once he feels my power he might want to start taking a step back.” Prior to his seventh professional contest, Lawal has been in Kiev sparring WBC and WBO World Cruiserweight Champion Oleksandr Usyk as he prepares for his World Boxing Super Series unification showdown with IBF and WBA Super Champion Murat Gassiev. “Sparring with Usyk has been a great experience,” he says. “It’s given me something to look forward to and made me want to train even harder because one day I want to be in his position. I want to be in the mix with the top guys in the division. At the moment, I’m just trying to gain experience and learn the game, but one day, I’ll be coming for those belts.” Lawal fights on the undercard of Tyron Zeuge’s WBA World Super Middleweight title defence against Rocky Fielding, which also features hotly tipped British super middleweight Zach Parker and top German talents Leon Bunn and Denis Radovan. Zach Parker inks promotional contract with Team Sauerland Team Sauerland is delighted to announce the signing of undefeated British super middleweight Zach Parker (13-0, 10 KOs) on a long-term promotional contract. The 23 year-old from Derbyshire recently announced himself on the domestic scene with an emphatic first-round knockout victory over Luke Blackledge, in an official eliminator for the British Super Middleweight Championship. Parker, who has already made a name for himself on the UK’s ‘small hall’ circuit with a number of impressive performances, has expressed his pleasure at signing with Team Sauerland and finally getting the chance to shine on the big stage. “I can’t thank Team Sauerland enough for this massive opportunity they have given me,’’ said Parker. ‘’I’ve been going under the radar for the last couple years, but now I can really showcase my talents on the biggest stage. “The sky is the limit for me. FIELDING AND SKOGLUND CLASH ON BELLEW-HAYE BILL Rocky Fielding and Erik Skoglund clash for the WBC Silver Super-Middleweight title at The O2 in London on Sunday December 17, live on Sky Sports Box Office. Fielding blasted David Brophy away inside a round to add the Commonwealth title to his British strap in Liverpool in September, and at the same venue two weeks earlier, Skoglund gave Callum Smith the toughest test of his career when they clashed in the quarter-finals of the World Boxing Super Series – and both men see the fight as the gateway to World title shots in 2018. “I thought that I was going to be getting a European level fight next but I this is bigger than that and past that level,” said Fielding. “Skoglund has just come out of the Super Series and they are all classed as World class fighters, so I am up against a World class operator and whoever wins can go onto a World title next. “He boxed well against Callum. He’s got a good jab and his movement was good. People had doubts about the weight for him dropping down from Light-Heavyweight but it didn’t look a problem. He’s got a good boxing brain and I know that this is going to be a really tough fight. “I trained so hard for the Brophy fight and everything paid off. It only went one round but we train for 12 hard rounds, so I’m still feeling fresh and I know that I will be at 100 per cent for this fight.
