MARRIAGE Please pray for our parishioners Priston Dias and Jovita Augusta Fernandes who will be married in Our Lady’s on Saturday 10th October. Sadly, under Covid restrictions they may have only 15 guests but the ceremony will be live streamed here and to family and friends in Goa. We wish them every happiness in their married life together. REQUIEM FOR VINCENT BUNCH The Requiem for Vincent (Janet Brook’s brother) will be at Our Lady’s at 11:45 am on Thursday 15th October. Under Covid restrictions we are limited to an attendance of 15 people. If you would like to attend please phone Janet before Wednesday on 01502 563208

AVRIL RICKARBY RIP The 30-number limit on funerals prevented us from having Avril’s Requiem Mass open to the Parish. To make up for this there will be an open Mass for the repose of her soul at 12:15 pm on Tuesday 13th October.

TRACK AND TRACE ARRANGEMENTS After sanitizing your hands when coming in to church please be ready to record your contact details, on the sheets provided or by using your mobile phone and the QR Code. If you have a mobile phone but not the App, it is easily downloaded from the Google Play store for Android phones or App Store for Apple phones. Please give it a try if you have not done so.

HELP REQUIRED TO PROJECT LIVESTREAM OF MASS INTO STELLA MARIS HALL So far, we have not needed to use the Hall as a church overflow but last weekend we had 70 people in Our Lady’s and only a couple of seats left. At present Tony Walmsley is the only person familiar with the set-up. If he is not at Mass it might not be possible to use the Hall as an overflow and if the church was full we would have to turn people away.

We need other people who could start the Hall transmission going. All the kit is there and ready. It needs someone with a Facebook Account who is also a member of Our Lady’s Facebook Members Group to log on, it is easy to join if you are not a current member of the Group. The rest is straightforward but Tony would show you how it is done. If you could be on stand-by to help, please respond to Tony Walmsley ([email protected]).

MASS WITH SOCIAL DISTANCING If you are planning to come for the first time, these are the points you need to bear in mind.

1. The Sunday obligation to attend Mass has been relaxed. Consider coming to a weekday Mass If it will be easier for you. Masses continue to be streamed via the Our Lady Lowestoft website. 2. If you have any Covid symptoms or have had a test and are waiting for the result, the stewards will ask you to return home. 3. You must wear a mask or face covering in church. Please bring your own, if you have one, so we don’t have to use up the church’s supply 4. The church toilets will be closed at both churches, excepting at the 10:30 Sunday Mass at OLSS and then only the disabled person’s toilet will be open. This is because of safety and cleaning requirements. 5. You may not be able to sit in church where you would like. 6. You must sanitize your hands with the gel provided when you enter but we have dropped the requirement to sanitize when you leave, because it caused bunching by the tables and people getting too close to each other. 7. There is no singing. The organ may be playing for you to listen only. 8. Communion will be in one kind and with the Host given to you by dropping gently on your hand with your arm outstretched. 9. We ask you to stay in your pew until the stewards indicate when to come out for Communion. 10. There are two standing Perspex screens so the priests do not have to wear a visor when distributing communion.

COMMENTRY SIDE OF BULLETIN & SUNDAY PLUS What you would have seen on the commentary side of the bulletin is attached as is this week’s Sunday Plus. Gospel Sunday 11th October: Gospel: Matthew 22:1-14

Next Month the Young People who have been preparing for the Sacrament of Confirmation will receive Confirmation and the Gifts of the Holy Spirit from Bishop Alan Hopes.

Jesus again used parables in talking to the people. “The Kingdom of heaven is like this. Once there was a king who prepared a wedding feast for his son. He sent his servants to tell the invited guests to come to the feast, but they did not want to come. So he sent other servants with this message for the guests: ‘My feast is ready now; my bullocks and prize calves have been butchered, and everything is ready. Come to the wedding feast!’ But the invited guests paid no attention and went about their business: one went to his farm, another to his shop, while others grabbed the servants, beat them, and killed them. The king was very angry; so he sent his soldiers, who killed those murderers and burned down their city. Then he called his servants and said to them, ‘My wedding feast is ready, but the people I invited did not deserve it. Now go to the main streets and invite to the feast as many people as you find.’ So the servants went out into the streets and gathered all the people they could find, good and bad alike; and the wedding hall was filled with people.

“The king went in to look at the guests and saw a man who was not wearing wedding clothes. ‘Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?’ the king asked him. But the man said nothing. Then the king told the servants, ‘Tie him up hand and foot, and throw him outside in the dark. There he will cry and grind his teeth.’”

And Jesus concluded, “Many are invited, but few are chosen.”

(Gospel passage taken from Good News Translation® and used with permission, see details below*)

Gospel reflection: What do you remember from today’s reading?

Today Jesus tells us another parable to try and explain what the kingdom of heaven is like. The king’s son is getting married. He invites lots of people to the party but when the day comes and the king sends out his servants to fetch the people they do not come. He tries again, but the people just aren’t interested in coming.

How do you think the king feels about this? What does he do next?

The king sends out his servants to stand in the middle of the street and invite everyone they can find to the wedding. So they do, and the wedding hall is filled with guests. They all take part in the big feast, with lots of yummy things to eat.

In today’s gospel story, the king represents God and the wedding is the kingdom of heaven. What do you think that Jesus was trying to tell us with this story?

We are all invited by God to enter into the kingdom of Heaven. It is a place where everyone is welcome. But we have to be ready to go.

When we go to a wedding, or any party, we tell the person who invited us that we are coming. We get out our best clothes and make sure we are clean and tidy. We buy a present and write the card. Can you think of anything else that we do to get ready for a party?

But how do you think we can answer God’s invitation and get ready for the kingdom of heaven? We can listen to God’s word and try to follow what God asks us to do in our lives. What do you think God asks us to do?

God asks us: to be kind, to be welcoming and invite others to share -so that everyone has enough food to eat and clean water to drink, to bring peace, to stand up for what is right, to care for and respect one another to love our neighbour, wherever they are in the world.

Prayers : In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen We pray together to God who welcomes everyone:
