The organizers of the 2021 North American Youth Chess Championships recognize the challenges presented by COVID-19. Precautionary measures are in place to prevent and reduce the spread of COVID-19 among players and guest, however we cannot guarantee that you (or those you come in close contact with) will not become infected with COVID- 19.

It is the responsibility of every player and their parent/guardian to determine the potential risks and participation in over-the-board chess tournaments. Ultimately, it is an individual decision on whether or not to play. Although the organizers make the tournament available to chess players, it is up to the players and their parent/guardian to decide if they want to participate in the event. To that end, participants and their parent/guardian are required to abide by the tournament and hotel protocols. These protocols may change before the start of the tournament.

24 Latest Chicago Mask Guidelines

The Chicago Department of Public Health recommends • Individuals over 2 years of age should wear a mask in public indoor settings, regardless of vaccination status.

• Masking remains optional in outdoor settings, where the risk of COVID-19 transmission is lower.

• Players should bring their own face covering due to the limited quantity the organizers will have on hand.

25 Illinois Executive Order 2021-18

In view of the recent Illinois Executive Order 2021-18 (COVID-19 EXECUTIVE ORDER NO. 85) that all schools in Illinois must require the indoor use of face coverings by students, staff, and visitors who are over age two and able to medically tolerate a face covering, regardless of vaccination status, we have updated the tournament mask policy to require all participants, family members, accompanying friends or relatives, and NAYCC staff to wear face masks in all public spaces related to the NAYCC irrespective of vaccination status. This mask policy applies to all playing halls, skittles rooms, and official vendor’s room when children are present.

By implementing this policy, we are ensuring the school districts sending students to the NAYCC are compliant with Illinois Executive Order 2021-18. All attendees are encouraged to bring their own mask.
