BROWN was appointed the associate director of bands at the University of Maryland in 2018. In this position, she conducts the UMD Wind Ensemble (UMWE) and serves as the director of athletic bands. Kevin Beavers has emerged as a rising star among the next generation of American composers and has written a variety of works for chamber musicians, voice, and orchestra. In particular, last year marked the debut of our new Skyline Piano Artist Series, showcasing the spectacular view of the Chicago skyline through the 40-foot glass wall at the back of the Galvin Recital Hall stage. The series continues this year with another impressive lineup of distinguished artists, including Jonathan Biss, Jorge Federico Osorio, Sergei Babayan, and Emanuel Ax. The Tichio Vocal Master Class series offered a stellar second season; its third season opens this fall with mezzo-soprano Isabel Leonard, followed by a return appearance by tenor Matthew Polenzani.
