www.laxdevils.com 1 League INformation 2008 media guide w w w . l a x d e v i l s . c o m WCLL Welcome to the 40th season of ASU Men’s Lacrosse. It is with great anticipation and excitement that we enter the 2008 season. We have a talented team that gained valuable experience during 2007, including the WCLL playoffs and MCLA National Championship Tournament. We’ll be back! ASU plays in Division I of the Western Collegiate Lacrosse League (WCLL). The WCLL is broken up I am personally excited to have the opportunity into four regions - Central, Los Angeles, North and South Regions. The Western Collegiate Lacrosse to coach at ASU. I will use my NCAA Division I League is one of nine conferences, spread from coast to coast, that is governed by the MCLA (Men’s and Major League Lacrosse experience to take Collegiate Lacrosse Association). These conferences have both Division I and II. our program to the next level. Our goals include a WCLL Division I Championship, an MCLA This national organization of men’s collegiate club teams was formed in the Fall of 2006 to provide Championship, and a win over the University more direct attention to collegiate club lacrosse and it replaces the old USL MDIA. The MCLA provides of . To meet our goals, we must build a governing structure much like the NCAA, with eligibility rules, national polls, All-America awards and and maintain an infrastructure that consistently a National tournament to decide a National champion. The MCLA continues to grow each season. places our program among the best in the MCLA. 201 teams will compete under the MCLA banner in the spring of 2008 in the different conferences. We need to play the most competitive schedule More growth is expected in the future, as the of lacrosse continues its rapid expansion at the possible. We need to recruit the best players and high school and youth levels. Those players are expected to gravitate toward collegiate club lacrosse put the resources in place to monitor and assist around the nation. them with their academics. We need to secure financial resources that allows us to keep player’s dues reasonable, hire additional coaches and SOUTH NORTH LOS ANGELES CENTRAL fund travel during the season as well as the off season. We need to improve our field resources for practices and to enhance the spectator experience during our games. We need to also enhance our alumni relationships.

Playing collegiate lacrosse is a valuable life experience for the players, but it requires a huge commitment and significant discipline. Players have the opportunity to travel and compete against other collegiate athletes at major universities. They will build personal relationships with their teammates that will last a lifetime. Athletics offer other aspects of their collegiate experience beyond the academics. But this comes at a high cost, financially, mentally and physically. Players must manage their academics, and personal lives while making the time to condition, practice, travel and play the sport. Their hard work now will pay life dividends later.

As I adjust to the MCLA environment, I am reminded daily of the need to raise funds to support our lacrosse program. Player dues cover approximately 50% of our total financial requirements. We need the ongoing support of our alumni, parents, family, fans and friends to maintain our efforts. If you have already supported our 2008 season, we thank you. If not, please consider a donation. We need everyone to support us at our games, purchase your Sun Devil merchandise and lend us your financial support. You can email me at [email protected] to discuss how you can help. Our 2008 goal is to “Be the Best!”

Sincerely, Chris Malone Head Coach ASU Men’s Lacrosse
