STEP 1: SET AN EDUCATION GOAL • What type of course will my child be pursuing? • Which country & university/ college would be the right match? • What is my family’s financial strength? • What would be the estimated total costs (tuition fee & living cost) by the time my child is ready for tertiary studies? • How much can I afford to put aside now?

STEP 2: CREATE YOUR EDUCATION PLAN • Discuss your plan & goal with your unit trust consultant. • Understand your risk tolerance & the assumptions considered, e.g. inflation, rate of return, etc. • Identify any other investments earmarked for the education plan, e.g. unit trust funds.

STEP 3: GET STARTED WITH THE EDUCATION PLAN • Open a unit trust account & select suitable funds. • Start a lump sum investment & complement with regular monthly savings through Direct Debit Authorisation (DDA).

STEP 4: REVIEW & ADJUST THE EDUCATION PLAN • Review your plan annually with your unit trust consultant. • Make adjustments based on any life-changing events. • Monitor the foreign exchange rate if your plan is for an education abroad.

Private universities or university colleges are private higher educational institutions (PHEIs). All the private institutes of higher learning come under the Private Higher Educational Institutions Act 1996. This act allows private universities and university colleges to provide tertiary education and to confer their own degrees.

The ‘3+0’ degrees are overseas degree programmes allowed by foreign partner universities to Malaysian PHEIs to conduct an entire degree programme in Malaysia. The syllabi, entry requirements, and examinations are determined by the foreign university. The foreign partner university will then award the degree qualification.

The general entry requirement for admission into a Bachelor’s degree programme is a pre-university qualification such as STPM, A-Level, SAM, etc.
