Received September 14, 2018; Revised November 2, 2018; Accepted November 8, 2018 Abstract The Naleh fish Barbonymus sp. is among the popular commercial fresh water fishes found in Indonesia; however, the population has drastically declined over the past decade. Necessarily, a conservation program needs to be established to gather information on the population dynamics to overcome this problem. The objective of this study is to analyze the population dynamics of the Naleh fish in Nagan River. The survey was conducted from January to December, 2016. In totality, three sampling locations were selected based on information from local fishermen. The Naleh fish was sampled using gillnets (mesh size 0.5 and 1.0 inches) and casting nets (mesh size 1.5 and 2.0 inches). A total of 761 fish samples were collected for the study. The von Bertalanffy (von Bertalanffy growth function) growth parameters were utilized to analyse the population dynamics of Barbonymus sp., using FISAT II (FAO-ICLARM Stock Assessment Tools-II). The results show the following population dynamics: Asymptotic length (L∞) was 160.07mm, coefficient of growth (K) = 0.73 -1 -1 -1 year , growth performance index (Ø) = 4.27 year , time at which length equals zero (t0) = -0.022 year , growth and age (Lt) -1 -1 = 2.55 year , and optimum length of catch (Lopt ) = 89.9mm. -

Box 81651-80100, Mombasa, Kenya 2Pwani University, P.O Box 195-80108, Kilifi County, Kenya Received: 09.03.2021 / Accepted: 23.03.2021 / Published online: 31.03.2021 Abstract: The Baringo barb Labeobarbus intermsdius is one of the least studied native fish species in Lake Baringo, a shallow freshwater lake located in the eastern arm of the Rift Valley, Kenya. This study evaluated aspects of its biology to provide baseline scientific information on the species. Fish were sampled using gillnets and their lengths (to the nearest 0.1 cm) and weight (to the nearest 0.1 g) measured on a meter board and electronic balance respectively. Parameters of the length-weight relationship were obtained by fitting the power equation; W=a × Lb to length and weight data. Each fish was dissected to remove the stomach for stomach content analysis. Gonads examined gonads for sexing and determination of maturity stage. Fish size in a total of 280 individual sampled during the study ranged from 6.0 to 36.0 cm total length and 4.3 to 1314 g total weight. The b value of the length-weight relationship was 3.1177 indicate positive allometric growth. Of 254 sexed individuals 107 were males and 147 were female giving a ratio of male to female to be 1:1.38 which was significantly different from the expected 1:1 sex ratio (chi-square test, p<0.05). -

Live planktonic feed (5000 cells/L), plankton and rice bran having 14.14% protein, and plankton and Saudi-Bangla nursery feed having 30.20% protein were tested as T1, T2 and T3, respectively. Three days old larvae of B. gonionotus (average length 5.0±0.15 mm and weight 7.0±0.05 mg) were stocked at a stocking density of 4.1 larvae/L of water in each aquarium. The highest length at harvest (28.06±0.38 mm and weight 135.00±3.05 mg) and also highest SGR (18.79±0.80) were found in T3 followed by T2 and T1. The survival rate in all the treatments was high (92-90%) and treatment to treatment variation was not significant (P<0.05). The result implies that the application of supplemental feeds over control in nursery rearing of B. -

Received 5 November, 2017; Accepted 2 February, 2018 Morphometric relationships of African big barb, Labeobarbus intermedius (Rüppell, 1836) (Pisces: Cyprinidae) in Lake Koka, Ethiopia was studied based on the total number of 266 adult fish samples collected in April-May and July-August 2011. Fish ranging from 23.3 to 49.0 cm in total length (35±4.1 cm) and from 95.4 to 1200 g in total weight (434.4±206.5 g) were randomly sampled. Of these, 55.6% (n=148) were males and 44.4% (n=118) were females. The length-weight relationship of the males, females and combined fish were curvilinear and statistically significant (P< 0.01). L. intermedius in Lake Koka has positive allometric growth pattern, which was statistically significant (p< 0.01). Females were more allometric in their growth pattern, but statistically not significant (P>0.01). Length-length relationships between total length (TL) and fork length (FL), fork length (FL) and standard length (SL), TL and SL were linear and statistically significant (P<0.01). -

The aims of this study are to access sexual dimorphism, the size at first maturity, reproductive potency, and spawning season. Fish sampling was conducted in three zones, 2 stations in each zone by using gill net, cast net, and electro fishing. The caught fishes were preserve in formalin and they were observed in laboratory. The results showed that this fish has sexual dimorphism, the size at first maturity of males 150-182 mm and females and 175-202 mm. The fecundity varied from 2,760 to 50,085 eggs with mean 17,347 eggs. The relationships between fecundity and body length, and fecundity and body weight were linear, positive and significant. Molnár1 1Veterinary Medical Research Institute, Hungarian Academy of Sciences, PO Box 18, 1581 Budapest, Hungary 2Institute of Tropical Aquaculture, University Malaysia Terengganu, 2130 Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, Malaysia ABSTRACT: During a survey on fishes of the Tasik Kenyir Reservoir, Malaysia, 5 new Myxobolus spp. and 2 known Henneguya spp. were found. The specific locations for 2 Myxobolus spp. were the host’s muscles, while 2 other Myxobolus spp. were found to develop in the host’s kidney and gills, respectively. Of the species developing intracellularly in muscle cells, M. terengganuensis sp. nov. was described from Osteochilus hasselti and M. tasikkenyirensis sp. nov. from Osteochilus vittatus. M. csabai sp. nov. and M. osteochili sp. nov. were isolated from the kidney of Osteochilus hasselti, while M. dykovae sp. nov. was found in the gill lamellae of Barbonymus schwanenfeldii. Henneguya shaharini and Henneguya hemibagri plasmodia were found on the gills of Oxyeleotris marmoratus and Hemibagrus nemurus, respectively. Description of the new and known species was based on morphological characterization of spores, histological findings on locations of plasmodia and DNA sequence data.
