Unit 4:.Designing Centerpieces and Holiday Arrangements- 6 weeks Unit 5: Flowers to Wear and Carry - 3 weeks Unit 6: Contemporary Floral Designs-2 weeks. Unit 7: Oriental Styles of Design-2 weeks Unit 8: Floriculture Marketing, Pricing and Sales - 4 weeks Unit 9: Permanent Botanicals- 2 weeks. Unit 10: Designing Wedding Flowers- 3 weeks. Unit 11: Sympathy Flowers - 2 weeks. Unit 12: Maintaining and Decorating a Potted Plant (Interior Plantscaping)- 2 weeks
Enduring Understanding (link to guide) ● Supply and demand will always affect prices of flowers and materials (as well as all goods in all industries). ● Flowers need high quality water, food and sugar, a healthy environment and sanitation. ● Form, space, depth, texture and color can all enhance or negatively affect floral arrangements. ● Artistic designs utilize principles to integrate all components. ● There are challenges ordering materials in high demand. ● There are many holiday traditions when creating holiday designs. ● One must use proper mechanics to create flowers to wear, ● Mechanics for hand-tied bouquets include various binding devices or bouquet holders. ● There are many floral design styles and each has its’ own purpose. ● Floral placement has symbolic meaning in oriental style of design ● General retail responsibilities of the flower shop owners/workers include managing finances, purchasing stock, controlling inventory , setting the prices for products and services, and planning marketing strategies. ● Everlasting flowers have several advantages over fresh flower. ● Floral needs for the wedding ceremony include: bouquet for bride, maid/matron of honor, bridesmaids, corsages, boutonnieres, etc. ● Flowers are a part of the sympathy process. ● Flowers are part of the sociology of the funeral tradition. ● Interior plantscaping is the use of plants in commercial and industrial settings.
