Continue Metro 3.00/5 2 votes When it started operating back in 1986, it was one of the smallest subway networks in the world. Now operates on 5 lines, serving a huge number of 62 stations. From measuring no more than 6 km in length, the system now covers more than 78 km. This subway system is growing. It started out as the first metro network in the entire city, and now it has an annual ridership of 86 million (2015). RET are the responsible owners and operators of this important network in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The Rotterdam Metro Line of the Rotterdam Metro Network consists of five lines, each with a unique letter, color and name for the easy identification of terminal stations. If you remember any of them, traveling on the service will not be a difficult task. Here we provide some details of the various metro routes in the city: - Green Line (Line A) travels between Schiedam in the west and Ommoord in the north, passing through Bers station - yellow line (line B) also runs between the western region of Schiedam and the north-eastern part of Nessland, passing through Bers - Red Line (C) covers the stretch between Spijkenisse in the south-west and Capelle in the east, and also passes through Beurs - Light Blue Line D originates from Spijkenisse and passes through Beurs on the way to Rotterdam - The newly opened dark blue line E connects the central railway stations in The Hague and Rotterdam Actual size map of Rotterdam 650 X 540 pixels, file size (in bytes) - 20351. There are many boutiques with branded clothes and accessories, restaurants, cafes and eateries. Before entering the passport control, tourists can return VAT for the purchases made. Most recently, a branch of the National Museum was opened on the airport grounds. The object itself is very compact and the staff are polite and sociable. The most comfortable conditions for foreign tourists are created here. You can get to the capital by train in 15 minutes. ... Opened in December 2009, the former Calandlijn became The A, B and C lines. The route runs underground and parallel to the river towards the city centre, where the junction with Erasmuslijn is provided in Beurs (formerly Churchillplein). A metro station was also built in Blaak NS trains to Dordrecht. The East West Tunnel ends at the western end of Kralingse Station, where trains continue eastward across the surface. Marconiplein Dijkzigt Beurs Leaving Capelsebrug, trains heading for Ommoord or Nesselande raise their pantograph while the train is in motion to switch to Sneltram mode, while those going 'Capelle a/d IJssel' continue with a third rail power supply. The 8.4-kilometre Sneltram site is completely separated from other traffic accidents, mostly fenced with hedges, but with several crossings. All three eastern calandlijn branches work every 10 minutes, allowing a 3-4-minute interval along the main section. The north-eastern branch, which originally ceased in De Tohten (with the sign Sevenkamp on the destination sign), was expanded mainly on the viaduct to Neseland (1.5 km) in August 2005. This section has no level crossings and instead of using overhead catenary trains switch back to a third rail power source. Nyu Werlaat De Tochten De Terp A 12 km extension of the Calandlijn line to the west (partially underground via Schiedam) and then under the River Nieuwe Maas (Benelux Tunnel) to meet the north-south line in Tussenwater opened on November 4, 2002. Although originally promoted as Beneluxlijn, the line works as an extension of Calandlijn serving Tussenwater - De Akkers section along with Erasmuslijn. Calandlijn trains from Spikeniss run along the Eastern Branch at chapel a/d IJssel. In 2017, the 2017 Tassenwater Viifsluisen Parkweg rail line from Schiedam to Hoek van Holland was transferred to RET for metro refit and connected to the east-west metro line. Through service on Line B, albeit with limited service, eventually began at the end of September 2019. The first line, called Noord - quidlin (North - South Line) opened in 1968 and ran from Centraal station to quidplein, crossing the River Niuve Maas in the tunnel. It was the first metro system to be opened in the Netherlands. At the time, it was also one of the shortest subway lines in the world with a length of just 5.9 km (3.7 miles). In 1982, the second line, the East Westlane (East - Western Line), was opened, passing between ThePersebrug and Kulhaven stations. In the late 1990s, the lines were named after two historic residents of Rotterdam, the Erasmus Line (North-South) in honor of Desiderius Erasmus and the Caland Line (East-West) in honor of Peter Kaland. As of December 2009, these names were discarded again in favor of a combination of letters and colors to emphasize and clarify the difference between individual branches, especially the former East-West line. The latter has been extended since September 2005; until that date, this line was discontinued at De Tochten. North of Kapelsebrug station and east of Schiedam Centrum station, with the exception of the De Tohten-Neseland section, the A and B lines have some level crossings (with priority) and can therefore be called light rail instead of metro. These sections also have overhead wires, while most of the system has a third rail (another exception is the E (RandstadRail) line to The Hague). However, the term light rail is not used in Rotterdam; most people just call these metro lines. From 30 September 2019, Line B is connected to the Shidam-Huck-van-Holland railway line, extending the metro network to Hook-van-Holland, and Line A will run on this line to West Vlaardingen starting November 1, 2019. Line C Pernis metro station Troelstralaan metro station at Capelsebrug, line C branches from the main east west section of De Terp in Capelle aan den IJssel. Until November 2002 Calandlijn (now lines A, B and C) west of Rotterdam, in Marconiplein. On 4 November 2002, an extension through the town of Shidam was opened in the direction of Spikenissa. The expansion included four new stations in Shidam (including Schiedam Centrum station) and one in Pernis. Line C connects Line D at Tussenwater station in Hugvlita. Line A and B branch up to Schiedam-Hoek van Holland Railway, while Line C trains continue and, like on Line D, stop at De Accers station in Spijkenisse. Line D De Akkers Metro Station D runs from Rotterdam Centraal via Beurs, Slinge, Rhoon, Tussenwater, and Spijkenisse Centrum towards De Accers. Line D intersects with lines A, B and C at Bers station. Before the E-line service at the Rotterdam Centre was implemented in December 2011, some D-line trains were stopped at Sling during peak hours. The E Line E line is a direct conversion of the former Hofpleinlijn from a railway line to a fast transit line in 2006. A section of the route between Laan van NOI and Leidshendam-Wurburg is shared with light rail on two routes from The Hague tram network towards Sotermer via Sothermer Stadslijn. All of these services fall under RandstadRail branding. At the time of opening, the old Hovplane station was temporarily stored as the southern end area of the line. However, on 17 August 2010, a new tunnel was opened, which connected the Rotterdam Centre metro station through a new tunnel and the new Blijdorp station to the existing tracks near Melankhtonweg station. Over the next year, work is underway to connect Line D to Line E at Rotterdam Centre station. Since the completion of this project in December 2011, all trains from Den Haag Central have run out at Sling (these are E-line trains), while Line D continues to run between De Accers and Rotterdam Centre. The northern term line used former railway platforms in Den Haag Centraal, which were inherited from the NS and used since 1975, having been moved from the previous term to Den Haag Hollands Spur. These platforms remained in use until February 12, 2016. The line was then closed between here and Laan Van NOI while construction was completed by a new station built on an elevated viaduct adjacent to the rail platforms. It opened on August 22, 2016. A series of 5,500 trains made between 2007 and 2009 were built for the new RandstadRail E line. In 2013, RET announced that it had ordered 16 additional SG3 stock vehicles to be launched on the Hookse Line extension. Another six cars were ordered to increase the capacity of the Randstadrail branch in 2015. These 22 vehicles, called HSG3, were delivered between 2015 and 2017. In 2015, there were about 175,000 daily riders of lines A, B and C. There were 145,000 on lines D and E. Future expansions Map 2020 Rotterdam Metro RET plans to build a connecting line from Kralings Station to the new feijenoord city residential area and then on The Kuidplain, Charles and Rotterdam Central Station; along with plans to transform two tracks from four heavy rail tracks between Rotterdam Central and Dordrecht into a metro operation. By adding additional stations and operating trains at two-minute intervals, RET expects to achieve a significant increase in traffic. Another goal is to automate the subway to achieve a 90-second run. Pulling power trains run on 750 volt DC power, which comes through the lower contact of the third rail for most of the system. There are several spring contact shoes on either side of the vehicle that are loaded and unloaded automatically due to the sloping edges of the third rail ends. This allows you to set the rail on both sides of the path, needing around the station's points and platforms. There is enough overlap between the two rails at both ends to avoid the train gap, a situation where none of the shoes are in contact live railway. To reduce the risk of electric shock, the rail consists of a strong yellow insulation material, with live current current metal band on the underside. It also protects against dirt (e.g. from fallen autumn leaves) by contracting or preventing electrical contact. The three lines, however, have sections that use overhead wires. These are lines A (in the direction of Binnenhof), B (in the direction of Nezeland) and E (in the direction of Den Haag Centraal). On lines A and B, trains lift or lower their pantographs, while the vehicle is in motion east of Capelsebrug station, while on Line E it occurs while stationary at Melanchtonweg station (this leads to the only level crossing from the third railway in the country, being at Kleiweg near the Blijdorp station tunnel). Please note that Line B trains return to the third rail for the final leg of the journey, from the penultimate station of De Tochten to Neseland. The western extension of the A and B lines to Hoek van Holland also uses overhead capacity as they are converted directly from the existing rail line. Metro sections that use overhead wires are called sneltram (light rail) by locals, as they include several guarded level crossings at street level that trains pass with priority, as in a conventional rail line. For this reason, trains with a pantograph (series 5200 and 5400) are equipped with turn signals, as well as any road vehicle. This makes it easy to see the difference between the 5300 series and the 5400 series of Bombardier trains built. The 5500 series and 5600 trains are also equipped, although the first is usually used on The E Line just because they carry RandstadRail branding and livery while the latter carries that from the RET.
