Bukidnon's 6,594 rice farmers receive cash assistance from DA The Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Office 10 (DA-10), concluded its Php5,000 cash assistance to rice farmers in the province of Bukidnon who were affected by the low buying price of palay due to the Rice Tariffication Law. DA-10 executive Carlene C. Collado explained that the cash assistance was accorded to qualified rice farmers, tilling an area ranging from 0.5 to 2 hectares and are duly registered under the updated Registry System for Basic Sectors in Agriculture (RSBSA). Said financial aid is under the Rice Farmers Financial Assistance (RFFA), sourced out from the tariff collections of the Rice Competitiveness Enhancement Fund (RCEF). Collado further expressed his gratitude to the provincial government thru Governor Jose Ma. Zubiri, Jr. and its municipal mayors for the support extended to the agriculture sector. A total of 6,594 rice farmer-recipients received the Php5,000 financial aid from the 19 municipalities and cities of said province from April 20-24. The towns and cities of include Baungon, Talakag, Sumilao and Manolo Fortich, Impasug-ong, Lantapan, Cabanglasan, San Fernando and Malaybalay City, Damulog, Kibawe, Dangcagan, Don Carlos, Kadingilan, Maramag and Quezon, and Kalilangan, Pangantucan and Valencia City. Nova H. Omonlay, a 62-year old rice farmer from barangay Kisolon, Sumilao, Bukidnon, who has been cultivating her rice fields for more than 20 years, said, “Dako na kaayo ni nga tabang alang sa pagkaon sa akong pamilya, labi na niining panahon sa krisis. Ang pagtanom sa humay ug ang kita niini maoy gisaligan namo alang sa among pagkaon sa tibuok tuig." [This is big enough to buy food for my family, especially this time of crisis. Rice farming is also the source of our income and this is where we also get money for our food for the whole year.” ] Aside from Bukidnon, simultaneous distribution of RFFA assistance was also conducted in the province of Lanao del Norte with 6,442 beneficiaries _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ .

Power Supply Procurement Plan; b. Distribution Impact Study/ Load Flow Analysis conducted that served as the basis of the Terms of Reference; and c. Due diligence report of the existing generation plant All Distribution Utilities’ shall follow and submit the attached report to the Department of Energy for posting on the DOE CSP Portal. For ECs such reports shall be submitted to DOE and NEA. The NEA shall review the submitted report within ten (10) working days upon receipt prior to its submission to DOE for posting at the DOE CSP Portal.

Case study The Indigenous Peoples of Mt. Kitanglad Range Natural Park Ma. Easterluna Luz S. Canoy and Vellorimo J. Suminguit Ancestral home The Mt. Kitanglad Range Natural Park (MKRNP) in north- central Mindanao is home to three non-Christian and non- Muslim indigenous groups who refer to themselves as Talaandigs, Higaonons and Bukidnons. These indigenous inhabitants are known collectively as Bukidnon, a Bisayan word for “people from the mountain,” and they share a common culture and a common language, the Binukid. According to Talaandig tradition, most of Bukidnon was the land of the Talaandig, the people of the slopes (andig). When the coastal dwellers moved to the uplands, the Talaandig referred to them as “Higaonon” because the latter came from down the shore (higa). The Higaonon claim that their ancestors were coastal dwellers and were the original inhabitants of Misamis Oriental. However, the arrival of the dumagat (people from over the sea) during the Spanish times encouraged the natives to move up to the plateaus or uplands, which now belong mostly to Bukidnon province. The Higaonon today occupy communities north of Malaybalay down to the province of Misamis Oriental, while Talaandigs live in communities south of Malaybalay, around Lantapan and Talakag (Suminguit et al. 2001). According to tradition, as recounted in an epic tale called the olaging (a story chanted or narrated for hours), a common ancestor and powerful datu (chieftain) named Agbibilin sired four sons who became the ancestors of the present-day Manobo, Talaandig, Maranao, and Maguindanao. Tribal legend has it that Agbibilin named the mountain Kitanglad, from tanglad (lemon grass), a medicinal plant that was associated with the visible portion of the peak left when the mountain was almost submerged during the Great Deluge.

DA-NorMin’s P6.2-M agri-interventions to boost farm productivity DALWANGAN, MALAYBALAY CITY, BUKIDNON, May 21- The Department of Agriculture in Northern Mindanao (DA- 10) turned over P6.2 million agricultural interventions to farmer organizations and a local government unit in Bukidnon. Under the DA-Special Area for Agricultural Development (DA-SAAD) machineries and equipment worth P5.9 million aims to help improve productivity and reduce poverty among the marginalized sectors in agriculture. The local government of Talakag, Bukidnon received three units 35 horsepower mini four-wheel drive farm tractors with implements and two units corn mechanical sheller amounting P3.2 million. The Upper Patag Growers and Farmers Associations, Inc. of Lantapan, Bukidnon received one unit rice combine harvester, one unit 35 horsepower four-wheel drive farm tractors with implements which include rotavator and trailer amounting P2.6 million. “The need to increase the level of farm mechanization, to produce more food efficiency and quality will be beneficial both for farmers and consumers,” said Carlene C. Collado, OIC-Regional Executive Director of DA-10. RED Collado explained, farm machinery will boost farming activities and ensure high production and reduce postharvest losses. DA-Philippine Center for Postharvest Development and Mechanization (DA-PhilMech) reported that postharvest losses for corn accounts to 7.18 percent and 16.47 percent for rice, from harvesting, piling, hauling, shelling, drying and storage. He has been emphasizing the need for farmers to adopt the different agri-machinery and equipment innovations to increase the country’s mechanization rate from 2.31 horsepower per hectare to 4 hp per hectare.
