Crompton’s Reception class pupils (68.5%) have an above Oldham borough average for Good Level of Development at reception age. Whilst the Girls are on par with the Oldham average (72.3%) it is the Boys that noticeably outperformed the borough’s average for Boys. The GCSE results table below illustrates good performances in English and Maths as 64% scored a Grade 4 or above, which was a higher percentage than the Oldham and national averages with 43.7% of students achieving an Attainment 8 score. Crompton is a semi-rural ward having a good number of farms surrounding the main urbanised areas and well-maintained open green spaces. High Crompton Park has a popular community facility with an active bowling community, childrens playground, tennis and basketball courts and large fields. Also within the ward is New Barn Playing Fields which has a small number of full-sized football pitch although the changing rooms are sadly no longer in use. The ward has a high proportion of well maintain, owner occupied housing with relatively low levels of social housing and private rented accommodation. Within the ward it houses four primary schools– two of which are rated by Ofsted as Outstanding and the other two as Good- and two secondary schools. Crompton as a ward has an ageing population with 23.4% being aged over 65, compared to the borough average of 15.6% with above average life expectancy rates, especially for women. The ageing population presents an urgent challenge to the community in terms of we ensure we age-well where we live and the community is accessible and inclusive.
