how to download a preorder game on ps4 What happened if there is a blackout/powercut during PS4 firmware update? So I own a PS4 Pro and recently there's a few blackout/powercut due to maintenance near where I live. I'm planning to get pure sine wave UPS but it is out of my budget (costs more than the PS4 itself). I'm wondering if there's a blackout/powercut during PS4 firmware update, will it brick my console? Is there any failsafe feature inside PS4 similar to modern PC motherboard? Like I can simply reset the firmware by holding the power and reinstall the firmware through USB. On PC, if your BIOS is bricked for some reason, you can simply reinstall without the need to send it back to manufacturer for example ASUS has "CrashFree BIOS 3" feature to do this. Because AFAIK PS4 firmware is attached to internal HDD right? I made this assumption because when you change your HDD, you need to reinstall firmware. Can anyone with knowledge/experience comment on this? Lil'DigiOp. Member. From my experience with tech, any blackout or power shortage during any update is a possible brick.. Try to avoid this if possible. If I'm not mistaken, PS4 has a failsafe with safemode. by holding power down for a couple seconds. I hope you can get to it to recover. Neuromancer. Member. I would buy one of those UPS'S to be safe. Fliesen. Member. How offen do you have an unexpected blackout / powercut? How often does Sony release a firmware update? How long does the actual update process really last. - excluding downloading the file. like a minute? please don't even bother getting an $70+ UPS just for that astronomically minuscule chance of having these 2 events intersect and maybe bricking your 400$ console. Set your console to not applying the firmware update automatically and just update the firmware during the evening hours - they're not gonna do maintenance then, will they? westman. That's not really something you can plan your life around reasonably. Blackouts can happen just about anywhere, if you've never experienced one that's more about blind luck on an anecdotal level than anything else. danowat. Banned. Kristijan1001. Member. no, they're saying it must've simply been really weird coincidence. The PS3 checks the firmware file for integrity before the update, so it can't have been 'damaged' due to the wifi interruption. And during the install process, the wifi connection is irrelevant, as the update file is stored locally. Chronospherics. Member. How offen do you have an unexpected blackout / powercut? I've had mine go off during an update before and it acted as if the update wasn't installed at all. But obviously there are different stages to the update so it might have a different effect at different times. Fuck I've had instances where I've turned my PS3 off deliberately while it was doing things like 'rebuilding database' because it was taking too long. It was fine. There's a slim chance your power will cut, a slimmer chance that it will occur during an update, and only a small possibility it would brick the console. If you wanted to do anything then an extended warranty on the PS4 would probably be better, since then if it breaks any other (many of which far more likely) then you're still covered. But even that isn't likely to be worthwhile. Pre-order PS4’s Biggest Games Today. Today we’re rolling out more PS4 game pre-orders on PlayStation Store. Last week during 2014, 10 PS4 games that were announced or featured at the show had pre-orders go live on PlayStation Store, and I’m thrilled to let you all know that each of those games will take advantage of PS4’s automatic pre-load feature. Automatic pre-load on PS4 allows you to download pre-ordered games before the release date, so you can get into your games after they’re released faster than ever. We all know that some of the biggest games can take a while to download, and with the pre-load functionality, you’ll be able to download and install those huge files up to several days in advance. And don’t worry if you forget: any titles you’ve pre-ordered will be automatically pre-loaded and auto-downloaded to your PS4 system by default. All you have to do is pre-order the game, make sure your PS4 remains in standby mode, and sit back and relax. You won’t have to wait long to try this new feature out – Transformers: Rise of the Dark Spark, which launches on June 24th, will be the first PS4 title to take advantage of automatic pre-load. One more thing: we’re focusing on all our new PS4 pre-orders, but note that the ability to automatically pre-load your game is also available for PS3 pre-orders. Watch for each week’s PlayStation Store Update for all the latest pre-orders! How did we ever cope with PS3 download and install speeds?! /rant. Obviously, the answer is because we had no other option to play the latest home console PS games. But this is beyond ridiculous/definition of 1st world problem: I started my Yakuza 5 download around three hours ago. It finished after around 150 minutes of downloading. This, despite the fact I didn't opt for background download and the console is connected via Ethernet, and I have a fast broadband connection. It has since been installing the game and is only 72% complete. On the plus side, deleting games is now a much speedier process than I remember. It took the PS3 less than 45 seconds to delete 13 GB of Tomb Raider reboot. Do you still primarily play games on a PS3? You have my sympathies, if you do. EDIT: And there it is! FOUR HOURS after I started the process, I finally have my copy of Yakuza 5! Potential exploit for PS4 digital version to play early. I don't want to give your hopes up and I noticed something when changing the time zone on the PS4 that I wanted to share in case this works. As we know, the official launch time for the PS4 digital version is 9/9/14 midnight PST time. However, while trying to change the time zones and setting it manually, I saw a small glitch where the time zone actually set forward in the dashboard for the game for a brief period. What I plan on doing is tonight when AUS GMT +12 time hits (5am PST on 9/8/14), I'm going to change the time zone on my PS4 and set it forward manually and change my time zone to +12 GMT. I'm hoping the small glitch happens and I can trick my PS4 to allow me to start the game. It probably won't work since the glitch is very quick. You can try this now if you like to see for yourself. Then the countdown resets back to the PST time countdown. Regardless, if it does work; I would feel bad not posting this earlier to the community. This may cause more confusion with all these pre-launch questions, so sorry in advance if I've caused a mess. Crossing fingers.
