Saints and Angels (Tuesday) LITANY & DEVOTIONS to Angels & Saints Tuesday 1pm Devotion Angels and Saints The celebrant leads the two opening prayers to Angels, one of the two versions of the Litany of Saints and choses one or more of the other prayers and then gives a blessing. Celebrant (to camera) We call upon our heavenly Father and Jesus His divine Son to send the Holy Spirit of healing upon our world at this time of pandemic. We ask the Angels to watch over, guard and protect us, especially, all our doctors, nurses, health-care workers and caregivers; may they be safe as our frontline against this pestilence, and may the angels strengthen and guide all essential and other emergency services We call upon the holy Saints in heaven, our elder and brothers and sisters, who have gone before us marked with the sign of faith, to intercede for us, for mercy, hope and healing, for those who are suffering from Covid 19 and to welcome in to the halls of heaven those who have died. Opening Prayers (2) face altar standing 1 To our Guardian Angel Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom God's love commits me here, ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen. 2 Prayer for the Archangels to protect us from Covid19 Heavenly Father, you have given us archangels to accompany us on our pilgrimage on earth. Hear and answer our prayers and pour upon us your grace and compassion. Send Saints Michael, Gabriel, and Raphael, to be with us today as we confront this terrible coronavirus. Saint Michael, we call out to you to come to our aid, fight for all our loved ones, and protect us from danger. Saint Gabriel, announcing good news, may we hear your voice encouraging us in these difficult times; calling us to faithfulness and love of our neighbor through social distancing. Saint Raphael, Pray you keep healthy all doctors and nurses who are serving those who are suffering from Covid19 and may their efforts bring comfort and healing. Help us always to realize more fully, O Lord, the truth of the archangels and their desire to serve us. Holy Angels pray for us. O Lord hear our prayer O lord hear our prayer New Version of the Litany (adapted for use in time of Covid19 pandemic APR CJ) A newly composed Litany of the Saints, by John D. Becker, successfully transforms the long solemn chant prayer in the Roman liturgy into a beautiful, melodic ritual music. It's simplicity and rhythm, as well as its shorter set of repetitions, makes it more accessible for the congregation, though some prefer the older style, which is in the nature of Gregorian chants (the traditional Litany is in Appendix 2). John Becker's version was copyrighted by the Oregon Catholic Press in 1987. In it, the saints are grouped together, and there are some slight deviations from the pattern in the older versions. Following is his wording. LITANY OF THE SAINTS John D. Becker Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Christ, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Verse 1. Mary and Joseph, pray for us. Michael and all angels, pray for us. Anna, Joachim, Elizabeth, pray for us. Elijah, Moses, John the Baptist, pray for us. Isaac, Sarah, Abraham, pray for us. Jacob, Joseph, Samuel, pray for us. Ruth, David and Solomon, pray for us. Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel pray for us. All you holy men and women, pray for us. Verse 2. Peter, Paul, Andrew, pray for us. James, John, and all apostles, pray for us. Mary Magdelene, Veronica, pray for us. Barnabas, Matthias, pray for us. Stephen, Philip, and Cornelius, pray for us. Prisca and Aquila, pray for us. Timothy and Titus, pray for us. Linus, Cletus, and Clement, pray for us. All you holy men and women, pray for us. Verse 3. Lawrence and Chrysogonus, pray for us. Innocent and Boniface, pray for us. Hippolytus and Origen, pray for us. Athanasius and Basil, pray for us. Felicity, Perpetua, pray for us. Cosmos and Damien, pray for us. John Chrysostom and Justin, pray for us.
