Theology of the Body Stations of the Cross
Theology of the Body Stations of the Cross by Fr. Vincent Gulikers. [email protected] THEOLOGY OF THE BODY from Theology of the Body by Christopher West: Chpt. 2 God wants to marry us. The entire biblical revelation unfolds between the marriage of the first Adam and Eve and the marriage of the final Adam and Eve, Christ and the Church. God’s mysterious and eternal plan is to espouse us to himself forever. Christ left his Father in heaven; he left the home of his mother on earth – to give up his body for his bride, so that we might become one flesh with him. We consummate our marriage with Christ ultimately in Heaven, but here on earth we consummate it sacramentally in the Eucharist. The deepest truth of human sexuality is revealed through the Eucharist. The holy communion of man and woman in “one flesh” is a great mystery that is meant to signify the holy communion of Christ and his Church consummated in the Eucharist. MALE CIRCUMCISION Why? Every time a man descended from Abraham consummated his marriage, he and his wife would be reminded of God’s promise of fruitful love. Circumcision foreshadows Christ’s ultimate sacrifice of flesh and blood. God’s generous love involved the sacrifice of one’s own flesh (right where it hurts). Spousal love indicates a total self-giving, a total self-donation. It is our bodies that make visible the call to self-giving love. Love involves the gift of self. The relationship of spouses is the context in which self- giving love is experienced. -

Chicago, USA, 2017 after Lydia Loveless Well, if I said I’m sorry, you should vest those numbers in skulls and jaws and thighs ‘Cause I don’t need to apologize for legs and feet and hands. A few ribs and I know I should probably leave neck and spine, without their processes, but I cannot let you go, honey. You serve as a base to the vertebral pieces on being. So you can turn my heart to paper. There were some teeth, which were adult. So you can write me a love letter in a skull, which on a slight view I’ll read with an open mind, and a fragment of the under-jaw. But everything you do turns me on, furnishing the most decisive proof of a bad way to go! What a bad me attentive to it. For you to love me but never let messes, by which it was articulated And your lover is pretty tasty, but shebone itself firm to where it’d been. And the way she talks to you, go judge the place of the eye. But now you seem like such a pussy to the sockets of your teeth ‘cause I know how to take you home, placing it hinder and under. What a bad way to go, how honestly bad, but let go solidarity. -
Words for the Weary Embracing the Lenten Season After a Challenging Pandemic Year by Ann Naffziger
Daily Reflections for Lent 2021 Words for the Weary Embracing the Lenten Season After a Challenging Pandemic Year by Ann Naffziger FEBRUARY 17 • ASH WEDNESDAY A Year Later Return to me with all your heart, with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning; rend your hearts and not your clothing. —Joel 2:12-13 Beginning Lent with its call to fasting, weeping, and mourning may not sound at all appealing to us this year. Since the coronavirus began sweeping across our country almost exactly a year ago, haven’t we done enough of that? Perhaps never in our lives have we fasted so much from hugging family members and physically touching our friends, from gathering together in book clubs, choirs, sports arenas, restaurants, and churches. Maybe you have lost a loved one, and you still can’t stop weeping. Even if you haven’t lost someone you know, our country and world are collectively mourning the pandemic’s death toll, the economic devastation it has created, and the political divisiveness it has spawned. Our hearts have been broken in so many ways this past year that perhaps God isn’t calling us to more mourning, weeping, and fasting this Lent. Maybe instead the invitation is to merely return to God with our entire hurting, weary selves. For Prayer: Take a few minutes today to imagine yourself simply being in God’s presence in whatever state you find yourself in. Allow God to be with you no matter what you are feeling. FEBRUARY 18 • THURSDAY AFTER ASH WEDNESDAY Unexpected Graces What does it profit them if they gain the whole world but lose or forfeit themselves? —Luke 9:25 Even though this past year has been difficult, it has also offered many graces. -

It has endured in the face of the changing times, without itself changing much, isolated off in its own world. Glorfindel had the opinion that Bombadil would be the last to fall, after all else was lost, last as he was first. In Tolkien’s story, that opinion was never tested. Good triumphed over evil, and everyone lived happily ever after. Not true on the Internet. Since 1993, the forces of evil have created a desolation and oppression that Sauron even with the help of his ruling ring could not imagine perpetrating. From the days of the Internet as an academic research network until today’s Internet I have witnessed ruination unbelieveable. The decay, corruption, and runiation of the Internet boggles my mind. Like Tom Bombadil in his carefully demarcated borders, The Genesis Discography has been an island in the storm, surrounded on all sides but never giving in. -
“Ain't Gonna Worry No More”: Depictions of the American South In
“Ain’t Gonna Worry No More”: Depictions of the American South in Randy Newman’s Good Old Boys Kate Coleman, B.A. Submitted in partial requirement for Special Honors in the Department of English The University of Texas at Austin May 2017 _____________________________________________________ Professor Coleman Hutchison Department of English Supervising Faculty _____________________________________________________ Professor Matthew Valentine Plan II Honors Second Reader Abstract Randy Newman’s album Good Old Boys (1974) is a southern concept album. Newman employs several narrators on the album in order to explore multiple perspectives and elements that illuminate southern identity. Newman’s observations result in a view of the South as disenfranchised, defeated not only by their regional prejudice and own mistakes, but by moral hypocrisy and abandonment from the rest of the United States. In implicating the rest of the country, Newman indicates that the struggles highlighted in the South and southern identity are not simply a result of regional dynamics, but indicative of larger American dynamics. What’s more, many of Newman’s observations and commentary withstand the test of time, and maintain relevance to political and social dynamics still present today. In providing biographical, historical, social, and musical context, as well as close-reading the album, the thesis not only explores Newman’s methods, but argues for his larger goals. Through analyzing and engaging with reviews of the album, both contemporary and modern, this thesis establishes Good Old Boys’ lasting relevance and legacy. i For my father, who not only taught me how to listen, but encouraged me to speak. ii Acknowledgements Never thought I’d make it, but I always do somehow. -

WITG Group Curriculum-B&W Version-FINAL
Who is this god? Group Discussion Guide God knows everything about us, but how can we know Him in all of His complexity? Throughout this series, you’ll discover God’s nature and character is not hidden from us. Our Creator desires for us to know Him intimately and reveals Himself to us through His world, His Word, and His work in our lives. We designed this Group Discussion Guide to take a deeper look at the weekend message. Each lesson contains the following sections: Discussions often take on life of their own, but they typically MAIN lack power when they lack focus. The discussion leader ought to use the Main Point to keep everyone on the same page. POINT To do this, you might say something like, "That is very interesting and a good topic for another discussion, but today's study is about..." and ask a question that brings people back to the topic of discussion. There will be times when it makes sense to ignore the Main Point. For example, if someone in your group experiences a significant crisis. If you decide to move away from the lesson’s Main Point, you want to do so on purpose and not by accident. GOAL: Warm up the group and prepare for transition into lOOK Scripture by demonstrating the relevance of the subject in the OUT culture. LOOK AT THE WORLD This question focuses the subject in a disarming way by first evaluating a topic through the lens of the culture. This is a “wide end of the funnel” question. -

The aim, to create an authentic live experience with all of the hits, as well as some of the less well known of Kate’s songs - some of which have never actually been heard played live before. ‘Running Up That Hill’, ‘Wuthering Heights’, ‘Hounds of Love,’ ‘Babooshka’, ‘This Woman’s Work’, ‘Wow’… Cloudbusting perform all the chart hits you’d expect to hear - so those who missed out on her live shows in 1979 and indeed 2014, will love the UK’s longest running and most universally applauded tribute act to Kate. Arguably, the band isn’t a ‘tribute’ in conventional terms, as no one is pretending to be Kate or impersonate her, instead the focus is on the authenticity of the music. Testament to this is that many of Kate’s original collaborators from both stage and the studio have been inspired to join the band for performances.
