Entitled NORSK, the exhibition brings together six contemporary artists whose works will be confronted with three of the major great names in Norwegian art history. In dialogue with the titular figure ED- VARD MUNCH (1863-1944), whose almost abstract pastel will be presented exceptionally in the gallery, Per Maning (born 1943) will show a series of recent photographs in the Studio Room of the Galerie Jérôme Poggi. A K DOLVEN (born 1953) will show on her part for the first time in France a series of pain- tings on aluminum that will occupy the conservatory space of the gallery, in vis-à-vis with an exceptional painting by Anna-Eva BERGMAN (1909-1987) from the 1980s with particularly contemporary accents.

  • Vrådal – Telemark Been Described As Denmark’S Answer to Walt Disney
NATURE AND CULTURE NATURE AND CULTURE 12 KM RETURN / 6 HOURS The holy mountain The fairy-tale king CHALLENGING WALK LOUIS MOE from Arendal has Vrådal – Telemark been described as Denmark’s answer to Walt Disney. One of his chief sources of inspiration was the Vrådal scenery and its abundant wildlife. He is most famous as an illustrator of children’s books, and for his pictures of animals wearing clothes. He also introduced Norwe- Photo Svein Straumsnes. gian trolls and monsters into the Illustration: Louis Moe, printed by permission from Milika Broberg. fairytale world of the Danish writer H. C. With his THE NAME HÆGEFJELL may come from the Old Norse bushy white beard he looked like a king from a fairytale, and Hågefjell – “the high mountain”. The mountain is prominent, for over 40 years he would return there every summer to his jutting out from the surrounding terrain. The name may also “throne” with its views of the distant hills, peaceful lakes and mean “the holy mountain”. Perhaps Pagan ceremonies were many islands. He inspired also the cartoonist Solveig Muren performed here before Christianity reached Norway? There are Sanden from Vrådal. • Our County, Our Story; Portage County, Wisconsin
Our County Our Story PORTAGE COUNTY WISCONSIN BY Malcolm Rosholt Charles M. White Memorial Public LibrarJ PORTAGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS STEVENS POINT, \VISCONSIN 1959 Copyright, 1959, by the PORTAGE COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS PRINTED IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA AT WORZALLA PUBLISHING COMPANY STEVENS POINT, WISCONSIN FOREWORD With the approach of the first frost in Portage County the leaves begin to fall from the white birch and the poplar trees. Shortly the basswood turns yellow and the elm tree takes on a reddish hue. The real glory of autumn begins in October when the maples, as if blushing in modesty, turn to gold and crimson, and the entire forest around is aflame with color set off against deeper shades of evergreens and newly-planted Christmas trees. To me this is the most beautiful season of the year. But it is not of her beauty only that I write, but of her colorful past, for Portage County is already rich in history and legend. And I share, in part, at least, the conviction of Margaret Fuller who wrote more than a century ago that "not one seed from the past" should be lost. Some may wonder why I include the names listed in the first tax rolls. It is part of my purpose to anchor these names in our history because, if for no other reas on, they were here first and there can never be another first. The spellings of names and places follow the spellings in the documents as far as legibility permits. Some no doubt are incorrect in the original entry, but the major ity were probably correct and since have changed, which makes the original entry a matter of historic significance.

  • The 11Th Triannual Nordik Committee for Art History Conference
The 11th Triannual Nordik Committee for Art History Conference Reykjavík 13 –16 May 2015 University of Iceland and the Nordic House The 2015 conference is entitled mapping uncharted territories. It aims to explore questions about the structure of the “art-world” and the establish ment of hierarchies within it. An key theme in this respect is the perceived dichotomy between “center” and “periphery”, an important issue in art historical discourse in the past decades. Within the Nordic countries and in other locations that can be referred to as “marginal” this raises questions about ideas, identity and power, and how to empower those that perceive themselves to be in a marginal position. In recent decades it has become increasingly evident that the lack of re search into the non- centric aspects of art has left us with a very incom plete picture of art history in general, its forms, structures and forces. We now perceive an increasing need to travel to those largely unchartered territories and attempt to map them, categorize them and understand. This practice enables us to criticize and disrupt the centric and provide a more coherent art-world view where both centre and periphery are included in a comprehensive manner. The conference attempts to engage these issues in an apt way, in a multi faceted manner where an attempt is made to approach the diverse aspects of art and design's historical lacunae in all their variety. All in all, the confer ence includes more than 130 papers. These are organized into 21 themes and 42 sessions. They engage both with the diversity of art historical re search in the Nordic while at the same time attracting papers from researchers from all over the world dealing with the same or similar issues.
