Annexure-3 BEST PRACTICE-1

Title- Career Guidance and Counselling.

Objective-1- To identify the problems of the students and guide them accordingly.

2- To prepare students in such a manner that they can be competent enough in facing the demands of job market.

The Context- Majority of the students studying in this college come from below poverty line and they live in remote, tribal and rural area affected with naxalite menace. Hence it becomes our social and moral responsibility to provide the best possible support to the students for their holistic development.

The Practice- On the basis of careful observation of students’ academic and co-curricular development, a mind map is prepared by every teacher who has innovative ideas and suggestions regarding potential and strong points of the students. All the teachers sit together and provide this information to career and guidance cell. In this process they take into consideration the desire of the students about choosing their career. After this, the career and guidance cell interact personally with the students who share their views and difficulties with the teachers. In these interactions most of the times following points are observed-

1. Non availability of proper guidance in students’ families. 2. Inability of the students to communicate effectively in English. 3. Non availability of the economical support from the parents. 4. Most of the parents are not interested in sending their daughters in big cities for higher education. They want their daughters’ marriages to happen as early as possible. 5. Students have problems regarding selection of right books for preparation of competitive exams. After listening carefully the problems of the students following actions are taken- 1. Arranging guest lectures for students. 2. Motivational inputs in classroom teaching. 3. Purchase of books for competitive exam as suggestion and need of the students. 4. Providing relevant information to the students regarding source of study material like websites, libraries and addresses of coaching institutes and expert persons. 5. Using personal relation of the teachers with the teaching fraternity for the benefit of students.

Evidence of Success- Despite situated in tribal, rural and remote area affected with naxalite menace, the number of students selected in various jobs is praiseworthy. It is evident from the feedback of the students and alumni. The number of students going for higher studies is gradually increasing.

Problems Encountered-

1. The College is situated in tribal, rural and remote area affected with naxalite menace. Hence the students and parents are not aware of the job opportunities available out of Salekasa. 2. Many students are shy and they do not discuss their problems with the teachers. Therefore the teachers have to take initiatives in such cases. 3. The students have very low aim in their lives. They do not get motivational inputs from their parents. 4. Poor economical condition is the major hurdle in going for higher studies. 5. Majority of the students come to the college from 10 to 15 km. They do not have basic educational facilities like library, tution , computer classes, internet, coaching etc. in their villages. They have to return to their villages before 6 pm.

Resources required- The college has adequate resources in terms of finance and HR. There is scope in extension/construction of the building.

BEST PRACTICE 2

Title- Annual Day Function.

Objective– 1- To identify hidden talent of the students.

2- To develop personality of the students.

The Context- Majority of the students studying in this college come from below poverty line and they live in remote , tribal and rural area affected with naxalite menace. Hence it becomes our social and moral responsibility to provide the best possible support to the students for their holistic development.

The Practice- Every year various programmes like debate, dance, singing, drama etc. are arranged in annual social gathering for overall development of students. In these programmes students show their hidden talents. Due to remote and tribal location, the students of this area do not get ample opportunities to expose their skills and talents. In such circumstances, college is the only place where they can present their talents. The Principal and all the teachers of the college understand this fact and therefore motivate all the students for participation in various sports and cultural programmes organized for them.

Evidence of success- It has been observed that the physical fitness of the students living in this area is excellent. Almost every year few students are selected in Army and Police department. Some students have very good debating skill. The success of Annual Social Gathering is evident from the feedback forms of the students.

Problems Encountered-

1. The College is situated in tribal, rural and remote area affected with naxalite menace. 2. Many students are shy and they do not come forward to show their skill and talent. 3. Therefore the teachers have to take initiatives in such cases.
