TWENTY-FIVE WITH WCHA TIES NAMED TO USA HOCKEY’S WOMEN’S WINTER TRAINING CAMP ROSTER List includes 12 current league players

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Nov. 21, 2019 – USA Hockey today announced the 46 players who will participate in its 2019 Women’s Winter Training Camp, a list that includes 25 current and former Western Collegiate Hockey Association Women’s League players.

The camp, which will be held Dec. 9-13 at XL Center in Hartford, Conn., will be used to determine the 23 players who will be named to the U.S. team that will face Canada in the first two games of the 2019-20 Rivalry Series. Those contests will take place Dec. 14 in Hartford and Dec. 17 in Moncton, New Brunswick. The final three games of the series will be played Feb. 3 and Feb. 5, 2020 in Victoria and Vancouver, British Columbia, respectively and Feb. 8 in Anaheim. Calif.

“It’s a testament to the strength and depth of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association that nearly 55 percent of the Women’s Winter Training Camp roster is drawn from players with WCHA ties,” Women’s League Commissioner Jennifer Flowers said. “I want to congratulate all of our current and former players, coaches and support staff who will be in Hartford for next month’s camp.”

The WCHA contingent includes 12 players who are playing in the WCHA this season – Bemidji State’s Clair DeGeorge; Minnesota’s Emily Brown, Taylor Heise, Madeline Wethington and Grace Zumwinkle; Minnesota Duluth’s Sydney Brodt and Maddie Rooney; Minnesota State’s Abigail Levy; Ohio State’s Jincy Dunne; and Wisconsin’s Natalie Buchbinder, Britta Curl and Abby Roque.

The group also includes 10 former WCHA players who earned Gold medals at the 2019 IIHF World Championship – (Minnesota), (Minnesota), (Minnesota), Alex Cavallini (Wisconsin), Brianna Decker (Wisconsin), (Minnesota), Hilary Knight (Wisconsin), Annie Pankowski (Wisconsin), (Minnesota) and (Minnesota).

Rounding out the WCHA contingent are 2018 Olympic Gold medalists Jocelyne Lamoureux-Davidson and Monique Lamoureux-Morando of North Dakota and former Wisconsin star Sophia Shaver.

The U.S. coaching and support staff will also have a decided WCHA flavor as Minnesota associate head coach Joel Johnson will serve as an assistant coach while Minnesota Duluth Director of Hockey Operations Nick Bryant (Hockey Operations), Wisconsin Director of Operations Sis Paulson (Equipment Manager) Minnesota Equipment Manager Brent Proulx (Equipment Manager) and Minnesota Strength and Conditioning Coach Cal Dietz (Strength and Conditioning Head Coach) will be members of the support staff. Additionally, former WCHA Women’s League Commissioner Katie Million serves as USA Hockey’s Director of Women’s National Team Programs.
