Thanks very much for providing the above said travel grant for above said events. 1) The event in Yangon was organized by Jay Koh and Chu Chu Yuan of NICA (Networking Initiative for Culture and the Arts). I gave a workshop lecture about the situation of performance art in Singapore relating to my own individual work to local artists as well as some foreign artists participating in the event. As there was not enough room in NICA house which runs an art space in a private rented house, I had to stay at a nearby hotel. Following the workshops it was followed by two full days of performance art in which I presented my solo performance. 2) Prior to going to National Review of Live Art Glasgow, I went to London for some research and visited the Live Art Development Agency. I had a very good discussion with the directors Louis Keidan and Daniel Brine and was given an overview of their operational management. I also managed to get in touch with editors of Performance Research who publishes a quarterly magazine based in Dartington College of Arts, Totnes. Upon contact I was invited to Dartington after the NRLA event in Glasgow to participate in their Crossing time event. Dartington College is a well known art college that offers undergraduate and post-graduate studies in Perfomance and Time-based art. I also could participate in another event 3 Encuentro Internacional de Performance held at Institut Valencia D’Art Modern (IVAM), Valencia, Spain. In Glasgow I presented a 6 hours durational performance with Black Market international. 3) In Perth, Midland I made a solo performance and also was a panellist for the forum on ”Live Art and Cultural Difference”. Unfortunately I received the information of sponsorship too late for inclusion in their publicity materials for the NRLA in Glasgow but the NAC logo were included in publicity materials in the Yangon and Perth events. It was a very successful trip and I greatly appreciate the travel assistance from the National Arts Council. Yours Sincerely, Lee Wen Attached: Budget summary, CD Rom( info and pictures) Brochures for 2005 Performance Site, NICA, Yangon.National Review of Live Art Glasgow, NRLA-Midland 2005 Perth 1 STANDARD BUDGET FORM - VISUAL ARTS Title of Project National Review of Live Art Glasgow and Perth and 2005 Performance Site, NICA, Yangon. It is an expansion of the project Collaboration, Networking and Resource-sharing: Myanmar, initiated by IFIMA (International Forum for Intermedia Art) in Myanmar. NICA identifies and supports those aspects of arts and cultural practices within Myanmar that are in need of input of various resources to facilitate their development, and collaborates with local and international artists, writers, historians, educators and organisers to build a platform for mutual sharing, learning and dialogue across various art disciplines. NICA was formed in March 2003, following the success of the event Collaboration, Networking, and Resource-sharing: Myanmar international symposium and workshops in June 2002 in Yangon, which was supported by Japan Foundation Asia Center, Prince Claus Fund and Arts Network Asia. Currently, it has a facility in Yangon with office, resource and reference library, archive, exhibition and activity spaces, IT training capacity, studio space, kitchen, accommodation for artists and writers-in-residence. Activities and Objectives: International Networking & Resource-sharing Programmes In order to address the lack of contact, interaction and access on the part of Myanmar art and cultural practitioners with and to their counterparts, information, knowledge and opportunities from outside the country, one of NICA’s primary objectives is to facilitate interaction, collaboration, networking and resource-sharing between Myanmar arts and cultural practitioners with those from neighbouring regions and internationally. NICA seeks to connect the Myanmar practitioner to the various discourses, activities, practices and organizations outside. To begin with, NICA is focusing on creating regional networks for artistic and intellectual exchange and discourse, primarily within the South Asian, Southeast Asian and Mekong regions. Residency, Research & Development Programmes In line with our objective of nurturing the developmental aspects of arts and cultural activities, NICA supports the research and development processes of art making; as well as the writing, translation and publishing of literature and research by Myanmar arts practitioners, writers and researchers, and facilitates its visibility and distribution for the attention of worldwide communities. NICA recognises the importance of locally responsive and sustained initiatives that strengthens a historically continuous understanding of Myanmar arts and cultural practices and responses to contemporary experiences and changes. As such, NICA's programmes are generated by and respond to local interests, needs and initiatives. We therefore support a broad spectrum of art and cultural initiatives by Myanmar artists, writers, historians and organizers that contribute to the deepening of historical understanding of Myanmar art and cultural activities, and to the strengthening
